A BlackBerry smartphone user or an administrator can set the number of password attempts on a BlackBerry smartphone. If the number of times the BlackBerry smartphone user incorrectly types the password exceeds the set number of attempts, the BlackBerry smartphone removes all application data. The number of password attempts can be set on the BlackBerry smartphone or using an IT policy setting on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. For information on password security, see KB00588.
Set the number of password attempts on the BlackBerry smartphone
- On the BlackBerry smartphone, go to Options > Security Options > General Settings.
- Highlight Number of Password Attempts.
- In the menu, select Change Option.
- Type the number of password attempts.
Note: You can set the number of password attempts to a value of 3 to 10.
Set the number of password attempts through an IT policy setting on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
- Open the BlackBerry Manager.
- Go to Global > Edit Properties.
- Highlight the IT policy you want to edit, and click Properties.
- Select the Password policy group.
- Type the value of the maximum password attempts.
Note: You can set the number of password attempts to a value of 3 to 10.
