vzw-blackberry-storm-left

A few weeks ago we got the word that 4.7.0.85 was out, now we see .86 available.  It’s scary seeing these new devices release new OS updates so rapidly, as it seems as though there’s many bugs that need to be resolved.  Try this at your own risk and let us know what you think of it.  Don’t forget to delete the vendor.xml file.

Think about your BlackBerry newsreader you downloaded long ago where you had to have your news manually or automatically refreshed every 10-15minutes.  Your  BlackBerry push service is starting to be used to its fullest maximum capacity.  Many third party applications are started to use BlackBerry’s “push” service to get things directed to your phone on time!  Refreshing your page or setting automatic refreshes? Forget about it.  Enjoy getting your data pushed!

CES 2009, and BlackBerry had lots of crowds at their exhibit which wasn’t even a suprise.  There was nothing new we were expecting to see from RIM, as they have had recent launches of the Bold, Storm, and have announced the release of the new Curve 8900 in February via T-Mobile.  Lots of hands on with the new 8900 this week, one even running AT&T service…

socialscope1SocialscopFBview

An all new client for Twitter and Facebook, which users seem to prefer over the stock applications provided by the companies.  Twitter was already a basic application which was created easy to post and update your current status.  This new app seems to be visually eye grabbing as users are preferring this application over the famous “TwitterBerry.”  Facebook works the same way but I honestly can’t see that one being such a big jump as the Twitter application took.  On SocialScope, you can update both your Facebook and Twitter updates with one single click.  Viewing network updates and picture updates has been mad easier as you can view all of them at one time (from both networks).  Included is an address book integration widget that lets you have your social network info in your actual address book.  Berryreview.com has confirmed that all BlackBerry shortcuts do indeed work (R, D, C, B, T, F).  Direct messaging between on another on Twitter has also been fixed.  No more sending messages back and forth and manually checking inboxes.  Chat windows and direct messaging is very friendly now.

crackheadberry

Blackberry email devices can be so addictive that owners may need to be weaned off them with treatment similar to that given to drug users, experts warned today.

They said the palmtop gadgets, which have been nicknamed ‘crackberries’ because users quickly become hooked on them, could be seriously damaging to mental health.

The study, carried out by New Jersey’s Rutgers University School, claims the Blackberry is fuelling a rise in email and internet addiction, with sufferers able to survive only a few minutes without checking for new mail.

One key sign of a user being addicted is if they focus on their Blackberry ignoring those around them.

The gadget, which combines a phone with internet access, was launched in 1999 and quickly hailed a lifesaver, allowing fraught businessmen to access their emails anywhere.

It quickly gained a huge celebrity fanbase which includes chef Gordon Ramsay, footballer Freddie Ljungberg and model Lizzie Jagger.

But the effects of becoming addicted to the device can be ‘devastating’, said Professor Gayle Porter who led the study.

She added: ‘Employers provide programmes to help workers with chemical or substance addictions. ‘Addiction to technology can be equally damaging to a worker’s mental health’.

bama blackberry

Earlier this week, the President-Elect restated his love for the handheld email device, and reiterated how difficult he would find giving it up due to legal and security concerns.

Advisers have reportedly warned him that once he takes office, the risk that his emails could be hacked and used against him would be too great. Due to freedom of information laws, the Government could also be forced to disclose any messages he sends as president.

In an interview with CNBC, Mr Obama said: “They’re going to pry it out of my hands. This is a concern, I should add, not just of Secret Service, but also lawyers.”

Industry figures have told The New York Times that the publicity being generated by Mr Obama for RIM, the maker of the BlackBerry, is worth tens of millions of pounds.

Doug Shabelman, the president of Burns Entertainment, which brokers celebrity endorsement deals, said: “This would be almost the biggest endorsement deal in the history of endorsements.

“He’s consistently seen using it and consistently in the news arguing – and arguing with issues of national security and global welfare – how he absolutely needs this to function on a daily basis.”
