Engadgetmobile: We’re hearing from a source — a source who’s pegged big stuff before, we’d like to add — that Sprint will be replacing its BlackBerry 8830 this quarter with a CDMA version of the Bold. The move would certainly make sense, seeing how the Bold is essentially a direct replacement for the 8800 series (though this could be bad news for those who appreciate the 8830′s camera-less nature) and the handset’s probably just about due for a refresh. We’re told that the Bold will feature EV-DO Rev. A, more memory, and a revised UI to match Sprint’s current corporate branding.

Exciting news to Sprint and I guess Verizon customers soon enough. Having it EV-DO will disappoint many BlackBerry Storm customers if it comes out soon enough after Sprint’s release!
Before we get off track, what happens to the business BlackBerry user who favors the 88xx series? Not every corporation lets you have a a camera phone. Many will come out and answer that the 87xx is still to date being used. Others will argue saying that it is a complete different device, not even close to the 88xx series. So the big question that comes to mind: Can the Bold 9000 replace the 8830?

All we can really say about this is that it’s about time they released it. We are up to 4.6 and 4.7 in other devices, and here we were, waiting for 4.5 to come out. The excitement in waiting for it for a whole year isn’t really there any more, but this is a big relief for those who haven’t already updated their OS via other carriers. Big ups to AT&T! Are you annoyed by the BlackBerry® Storm™ touch screen remaining active during a call? Frustrated with accidental screen presses activating programs while you talk?
CellAvant has the answer… TalkLock. This free utility automatically engages a few seconds after a call is connected, and intercepts touch screen actions. This prevents screen presses from launching programs or invoking functions while you talk. When the call ends for any reason, TalkLock releases control of the screen until your next call. You can also disable the lock and return to your normal phone behavior at any time by swiping your finger across the screen from left to right. Features include:
- Automatically runs after installation, and on each reboot
- Automatically activates after phone calls are connected
- Automatically hides when phone calls are completed
- Manual unlock with “slide to unlock” function
- Menu item to re-engage lock after unlock
- Customizeable backround image (uses /home/user/TalkLock-Background.png if it exists under Device Memory)
