This was quite an incredible story, a little more hectic than the McCain campaign BlackBerrys being sold with their data on them.  An insurance worker from the UK who bought a Blackberry phone off eBay was in for quite a suprise when he found out that the device came the phone numbers of famous stars such as Julie Walters, Natalie Portman, Kevin Spacey and Jude Law.  Kent Devey, who paid only £16 for the BlackBerry device, also found he had mobile numbers and emails of other celebrities including Stephen Fry, Louis Walsh, Julianne Moore and Paul O’Grady.  Mr Devey, 28, from Oldbury, near Birmingham, said he was completely shocked that the details were left on the device.

“I wanted a Blackberry so I could receive emails, I never expected I’d be able to email celebrities though, he said after being in shock of all this happening.  I bought the phone for a really good price and it arrived a couple of days later.  As I started to look through it, I noticed that one of the emails hadn’t been wiped off. Then I started to go through the numbers already saved on the phone, and as I scrolled through I started to recognize some of the names and then I saw Jude Law’s number.”

The claims assistant didn’t believe it was the real deal until he rang Julie Walters and got through to her answer phone.

‘I told my brother and he didn’t believe it, so we decided to ring a couple of the numbers. So when I got Julie Walters answer phone, I was speechless,’ he said.

Mr Davey plans to get in contact with the previous owner, believed to be a film producer, and explain the situation.  ‘I think it was just a genuine mistake, as the guy that sold it to me must have just got the phones in bulk and expected they would have been wiped,’ he said.  ‘Under the Data Protection Act I’m not allowed to have these numbers so I’ll be doing the right thing and getting in touch with the film company to clear everything up.  I’m sure they will be pleased to have it back in their possession because I’m sure somebody who isn’t as honest as me could have sold this on for a tidy profit.”

What would you have done?  I think the average person would of kept it, showed off, and called celebrities infront of their friends.  The greedy man would of went ahead and sold it for tons of money.  In the end he did do the right thing as it would be rather inconvenient seeing celebrities’ phone numbers floating around, forcing them all to change it.
