U2 selects BlackBerry as its world tour sponsor

It looks like Research In Motion will be going along for the ride as the world’s biggest rock band U2 begins its worldwide tour this summer.
U2 spoke briefly about its tour plans earlier this morning, mentioning its top sponsor, RIM’s BlackBerry. The new partnership between the band and RIM comes just a few years after U2 helped flog Apple’s iPod digital music player through a series of television commercials, which featured the band playing its song Vertigo.
This is a serious move, and we’re all curious as to how Apple feels about the once Apple sponsored band, and now newly RIM sponsored band.
In a statement this morning, U2’s manager Paul McGuinness said the band and RIM share a similar vision that will “lead to new and innovative ways to enhance the mobile music experience on the BlackBerry platform.”
“We look forward to sharing more details as the relationship unfolds,” he said.
U2’s world tour will begin in Barcelona, Spain on June 30th, in support of the band’s 12th studio album, No Line on the Horizon. The tour will come to Toronto on Sept. 16th and will also hit Vancouver.
