GrandCentral has announced transforming its service to Google Voice.  The service will start to provides many new features.

1. Transcriptions: Now, in addition to being able to listen to your voicemail messages, you can choose to have your new voicemails automatically transcribed. You’ll see these transcriptions in your inbox and will be able to search for voicemails. Transcriptions are also included in email and SMS notifications. They are fully automated, so they aren’t perfect, but we’ll be working to improve this in the future.

2. SMS support: When somebody sends an SMS to your Google Voice number, that SMS will be relayed to each of your forwarding cell phones and stored in your inbox. You can reply from your computer or from any of your mobile phones and the conversation will be saved in your inbox. You’ll be able to read through the conversation thread and search for past messages.

3. Conference calling: If you want to talk to more than one person at once, just tell everyone to call you on your Google number. When you get a call waiting notification, you will have the option to press 5 to add them to your existing call.

Qtel today launched the BlackBerry Curve 8900, bringing exceptional capability in a stylish, compact design to business and consumer users in Qatar.  It was only in January that Qtel started providing the BlackBerry Internet Service.  Now with nothing to stop them, they are coming out with the newest latest device at full speed in order to catch up with the rest of the world’s BlackBerry market.

Eng. Khalid Abdulla Al Mansouri, Executive Director, Business Solutions, Qtel, said “Qtel is actively increasing the range of high-end mobile devices available for people across Qatar. We believe that this new model – the thinnest and lightest full-QWERTY BlackBerry Smartphone on the market – will prove enormously popular because of its functionality and design quality.”

callblocker

This is an application that allows the user to block unwanted calls or calls from unknown, private or withheld numbers.  Through this you won’t get bugged anymore by advertisement or unwanted calls. Another feature is that you can block a set of numbers that starts with specific digits (e.g. all 190 numbers).  You can even choose numbers from any contact in the address book and simply add them to the list of blocked numbers through one click.  If you are in the Call Log and want to add a number from there, you just click Menu -> ‘Add Number to blocked List’ and then the number will be added to the list of blocked numbers. No need for the long copy-paste procedure.  The interface is very easy to handle and manageable even for new Storm Owners.  Best of all it’s free!

peekaboo

Don’t you hate when you’re in paparazzi mode but your BlackBerry camera’s response time is so slow?  Peek-a-Boo is a fun application for BlackBerrys that allows you to take 4 snapshot pictures back to back in total silence.  This program comes in handy when taking a picture and someone blinkls or doesn’t do the action you want them to be doing in that very second.  This convenient app is freeware and can easily be downloaded OTA here or go to http://berrycoder.com/peekaboo.jad from your BlackBerry Browser.
