There’s been a lot going on in the past few months between RIM lawsuits to new device leaks here and there. There was leaked screenshots we all saw of BlackBerry Visual Voicemail in the past and it seems like the idea is there but there hasn’t been any recent updates or release dates on the matter. Upgrading to a later OS on your Bold shows that the Visual Voicemail app is there but not in use.

Since late December (December 31st ’08 to be exact) we were all able to download the beta version of SlingPlayer for BlackBerry. Over the past few months, the 30 day trial would reset itself every 30 days which was great. Those days have come to an end and we must purchase it to use it now at this point. It is a one time fee of $29.99 which is all worth it for what the software does for you.
So what’s SlingPlayer?

Imagine having access to your home television cable channels right on your BlackBerry giving you the freedom of changing channels while the TV at home can remain on any channel or switched to whatever that viewer wants there. It looks like IM+ has decided to support Facebook Chat in their all in one client for messaging! We are starting to see a lot more clients include Facebook such as CellSpin and SocialScope.
Right on their site it states:
“Chat within AIM®/iChat, MSN®/Windows Live™ Messenger, Yahoo!®, ICQ®, Jabber®, Google Talk™, MySpace and FacebookIM® (NEW!) in one client. In the IM Push™ mode send and receive IMs as emails and save precious battery life!”
So all you see is $49.95 to purchase? Just seems way out there when comparing to other software for BlackBerry. If people are disappointed with the BlackBerry App World being set at $2.99 minimum, who is to pay $49.95 for this app? The application is great and has amazing features such as messages getting pushed to save battery life, and when connections are lost it guarantees you will receive your messages.

A police chief of the Seattle suburb of Federal Way has finally decided to issued a public apology for a traffic accident that happened while he was checking his BlackBerry in his unmarked police car.
The city summed it up Thursday in a news release that began “Federal Way Police Chief Brian Wilson is mortified.” Apparently Wilson stopped for a red light on March 18 and glanced down at his BlackBerry to view newspaper headlines and e-mails. He then took his foot off the brake and collided with the car in front of him. Had he not been a cop, who knows what he would of faced.
No body was injured in the incident although I feel the cop got off too easy with just a formal apology. The City Manager Neal Beets gave Wilson a verbal reprimand.
The police chief says he takes full responsibility and I am glad for that.
