Starting tomorrow, anyone with an iPhone or BlackBerry will be able to locate the closest Desjardins caisse or ATM with only a few clicks on their phone.

Already very accessible with some 2,764 ATMs, 1,396 service centers in more than 645 Quebec municipalities, Desjardins’ presence will now be even stronger thanks to the Site Finder application created for the iPhone and BlackBerry.

The free, practical and easy to use tool will be available to all Desjardins members and clients of other financial institutions who have an iPhone or BlackBerry with GPS capability and Internet access. In just a few seconds, they will be able to obtain the precise location of Desjardins ATMs and Desjardins business centers.

iPhone and BlackBerry users can use the geolocation service at no cost to find the closest point of service. Desjardins members get the double advantage of avoiding user fees at non-Desjardins ATMs.

“We are very proud to once again offer our members leading-edge technological solutions completely free of charge. This new initiative demonstrates our ongoing commitment to understanding and meeting client needs”, said Maureen Dubois, Vice-President of the Financial Services Division at Desjardins.

We’ve seen many mobile banking websites here in the states, but nothing to hit the spot as this application will tomorrow.  We’ve got the BofA (Bank of America) launcher that does not download properly for everyone, and some mobilized websites.

Congrats to all those in Quebec!

Out in the Dubai (UAE), Etisalat today announced plans to launch the highly-anticipated BlackBerry® Storm™ 9500 smartphone device in the UAE with it being the first operator in the Gulf region to launch the device.

The BlackBerry Storm is the world’s first “clickable” touch-screen smartphone. The famous state-owned operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will launch BlackBerry services by April at last.

The BSNL chairman and managing director Kuldeep Goyal told reporters that: “We have got the required approvals from the government and will launch BlackBerry services by next month.”

At present, four telecom operators – Reliance Communications, Airtel, Vodafone and Tata Teleservices – are providing BlackBerry services.

BlackBerry phones offer a host of services, including allowing users to access their e-mail on the move.

BlackBerry devices, manufactured by the Canada-based Research In Motion (RIM), had earlier come under scrutiny after Indian security agencies expressed concern that the data being transmitted through the device could not be intercepted due to the high encryption codes being used by the company.

However, Canadian Minister of of Industry Tony Clement, after a meeting with Communications Minister A. Raja in February, had said the security concerns over the BlackBerry phones had been ‘resolved as far as possible’.

Definitely an application everyone must have.  It is what it says it is, a weather app.  It neatly tells you the weather not only by clicking the app but just looking at the icon!  That’s right, the icon changes through out the day based on the current weather.  If it’s sunny you’ll see a big sun as an icon.  If it’s rainy, youre icon will become a cloud with rain drops falling out of it.  Scrolling over to the icon will display the current weather condition as well.

WeatherEye for BlackBerry provides you the following information and allows you to select from any city The Weather Network provides content for:

  • Current conditions
  • Short-term forecasts
  • Long-term forecasts
  • Warning updates
