President Obama will soon get his souped-up, high-security BlackBerry for use in and around the White House and during presidential travel, said Obama administration officials.

It seems to be exciting for him and a huge relief  for the Obama Administration who had no faith in their President walking around with a BlackBerry.

So what’s so crazy about this device?  The top-secret BlackBerry 8830 is in the final stages of development by the National Security Agency, which will soon begin checking to make sure its encryption software meets federal standards. The device could be ready for use in the next few months.

The software being used to secure the personal digital assistant is called SecureVoice, developed by the Genesis Key, Inc. of Washington. It can turn any BlackBerry 8830 or Curve into a top-secret device for handling phone calls, e-mail and video streaming, as well as Internet access.

When it is finally ready, President Obama will be able to send text and email and make phone calls to others with the secure software loaded on their devices. Who else gets the device?  I wouldn’t be suprised if the first lady Michelle did and others that the President kept in direct contact with.

A few weeks ago, we saw Facebook removed from the BlackBerry App World without any word or reason.  Now we see the final version of Facebook 1.5 release officially!  We didn’t, see it on the App World right away but it’s surely there now. So what’s new in the BlackBerry App World?  Well for starters, we have an awesome hotel reservation service program right for your…BlackBerry!  The application literally lets you book your hotel right from your device.  It links with Google Maps as well and will give you directions to the hotel you reserve at.  

You can search through the database of more than 230,000 hotels worldwide, check availabilities and current prices, and find out about the location of and facilities at available hotels. In addition, you don’t have to go and judge hotels yourself.  You have the advantage of seeing hotel photos and evaluations by fellow guests when making your decision. Directly book the hotel of your choice free of charge online at the best price – even at the last minute. Many hotels can be booked without having to provide your credit card details and can be cancelled free of charge right up until the day of arrival. Have your booking confirmation sent to you by SMS and/or e-mail and copy the details of your hotel booking into your address book or calendar.  Your built-in GPS is used to locate hotels in your area if you are one of those short notice travellers and haven’t booked anything yet.  Use your built-in GPS to locate available hotels in your vicinity or launch a search using an entry in your address book or calendar to find hotels near your contacts or meeting.
