blackberry-app-world

So what do we see upon opening BlackBerry App World now?  It’s clear that you can browse “Top Free Apps” and “Top Paid Apps” within the application.  If anyone remembers the first App World Build, it was a little annoying just browsing through categories seeing what’s free and what is premium.  As there are no changes seen yet or memory card saving options, we have to wait and see what RIM has to say about everything.  Click here to download BlackBerry App World v1.1.

UPDATE: Official Change Log:

Official change log below:

  • Enhanced discovery
    • View the catalog by free vs. paid top downloads
    • Additional categories and sub-categories
  • Customers can sort their search results by:
    • Newest
    • Highest Rated
    • Price (lowest/highest)
    • Developer (alphabetical)
    • Application Name (alphabetical)
  • Archive apps: Customers can now archive their apps to SD Card or on-device storage memory and reinstall when they want to use them

BlackBerry Logo

We found this article in the Orlando Sentinel and felt that it could be very useful to new BlackBerry users, as many of us just picked up these devices once upon a time and figured a lot of stuff on our own way before all these blogs and tips/tricks were on the Internet.  As BlackBerry was primarily a corporate business device, it has now become popular among all sorts of personal users, even becoming an advantage over other devices such as the iPhone.  So here’s a great list of some tips and tricks you might find very useful if you are new to BlackBerry.

1. When you can’t figure out how to perform a function, try hitting the Menu key (the one with the white dots) to bring up a menu of additional options. For instance, if you want to rearrange the icons on your home screen, highlight the icon with your cursor, press the Menu key, select “Move” and then drag the icon to where you want it and click again.

2. Shortcuts are your friend on a BlackBerry. Some of the most useful include: hitting the space bar twice to enter a period when composing text, pressing “t” to go to the top of your e-mail inbox and “b” to go to the bottom, pressing “c” to compose a new e-mail, “r” to reply to an e-mail, “f” to forward a message, when you have an e-mail open, press “n” to move to the next message and “p” to go back to the previous message. To delete a bunch of messages in a row in your inbox, hold down the shift key and select the messages with your scroll bar or cursor and press the delete key.

BoldGrungeHeartsSample2

If you haven’t realized, this theme used be a premium theme and has just now been put out as a free one with an OTA download link.  It is called Grunge as the name fits well with the background images displayed.  The icons have all been arranged in a unique way you haven’t had in any other theme.  The top header hasn’t been changed much, just some minor difference to help enhance your experience.  Special thanks to Shellbell67 for providing this great theme and making it free!

blackberry-app-world

At last, we are given the opportunity to save applications on our memory cards rather than our native phone’s memory, eating up our ram as well as losing a bunch of apps when formatting the device.  By having it on your memory card, you never have to worry about losing any information, or performance on your device.  In a recent RIM documentation, these updates were mentioned to be coming in the next build of the BlackBerry App World.

Check out the full documentation here.

RedPassion

The Red Passion theme for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 has pretty much stock icons with some glamor added to them as you can see.  The indicator red star for the icons displaying new unread messages ahs been changed to a small arrow which is pretty cool.  The top header of the theme has remained pretty much stock, but the theme’s backgrounds all based around red colored graphic design.  Special thanks to  BarbieW for providing this great theme.  The OTA link can be found below the screenshots.

blackberry bold new os

T-Mobile UK has released the latest BlackBerry Bold 9000 OS, ranking at 4.6.0.281.  The day it released, it was not available on their website for everyone to download, but now it is there as we are all fortunate.  BerryReview has also found a MegaUpload download link as well if you’d rather do it through there.  Both links are working as it is just a matter of preference.  If you decide to download the OS to your Bold, let us know how you like it.

kimk

How embarrassing to get caught in the act.  The famous Kardashian sister Kim is seen here walking downtown, but apparently did not notice the paparazzi crew right infront of her face humiliating her in the act of window shopping.  Window shopping’s exact definition is “when one visits a store or mall to admire goods rather than to purchase them. The ‘shopper’ seems to be looking so intently at the glass in storefront windows that he appears to want to buy the window itself, hence ‘window shopping’.  In this case, Kim took window shopping to the next level by taking a picture of the apparel she drools over.

Whether you’re on a laptop of BlackBerry, you can now enjoy free Internet service on behalf of AT&T at any Barnes & Noble locations without having to subscribe to any type of services.  Other franchises including Starbucks offer AT&T Internet requiring you to register an account via a Starbucks “cash card” or gift card.  It is free for all customers but you have to purchase your coffee using your Starbucks card.  When connected via BlackBerry or any other PDA with WiFi capabilities, the AT&T WiFi connects right away, not prompting you with any forms to fill out.
