Yesterday, we all found out about Indonesia not so happy about RIM’s negligence in regards to opening a service center within their country. That resulted in Indonesia announcing a deadline for RIM to comply with what they need. Quickly today we saw a reply back from the BlackBerry makers themselves, Research in Motion.

RIM ensured that it’s opening a service center for BlackBerry handsets in Indonesia after the country encountered issues with licenses last month for new BlackBerry devices.

“RIM is in the process of arranging for a RIM-authorized repair facility to be opened in Indonesia in the near term,” the Canadian maker of the BlackBerry said today in an emailed statement. “RIM remains very excited about the future of the smartphone market in Indonesia and will continue working” with the government to address regulatory requirements, they said.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Informatics temporarily halted licenses for sales of new BlackBerry models last month pending the opening of a local branch office with after-sales service.

About 300,000 Indonesians are now listed as BlackBerry users within the country, compared to the low 100,000 at the end of 2008 that was seen. Figures will most likely increase to 1 million by the end of December, according to Gatot Dewa Broto, a spokesman for the ministry based on the popularity and demand of the BlackBerry device.

“We appreciate the company’s commitment and it actually would help RIM’s business if they open a service center here as the number of users increases,” Broto said in a phone interview in Jakarta. “The company has until July 15 to comply with our request.”

Staying firm on their word, Indonesia is keeping the July 15 deadline for RIM to start making moves.

Is RIM not paying too much mind and attention towards the project? Are they falling behind? Let’s wait to see how and when RIM handles this situation that could determine whether or not there will be any more new BlackBerry customers in Indonesia.
