BerryScanner: Listen to police and fire scanners on your BlackBerry
by The PocketBerry Team
I know, it’s coming as a shock for many of you, but it has been made possible. I didn’t think it would ever be taken this far, but it did! Simply select your country, state, and select the police department you are looking for, then simply click “play.” You probably won’t get any leads as to where the police might be, but you can listen in to your state police officers, and selected towns listed. The options on it or great also. You can choose to start and stop the stream any time you please. Here’s the coolest part of the app

In addition, you route the audio any where you want including: Bluetooth speaker, headset, speaker in general, etc. Check it out for yourselves and let us know what you think. Head over to the BerryScanner website or point your BlackBerry Browser to ota.berryscanner.com
Got questions? Check out the FAQs below, and if not make sure you head over to the BerryScanner site using the link above and post your inquiries there.
Q: Where on the Internet is the audio coming from?
A: All of the scanner listed in the BerryScanner directory are hosted by RadioReference.com.
Q: Why aren’t there departments in my area in the directory?
A: The scanner feeds are provided by volunteers, if there are no scanners listed in your area it’s because no one in your area has volunteered to provide a scanner feed.
Q: I have a scanner I’m not using, how can I use it to provide a feed and get it listed in the app?
A: If you’re interested in providing a feed, go to http://www.radioreference.com/apps/content/?cid=5 for information.
Q: Why does the player buffer so much before it begins playing?
A: BerryScanner uses the BlackBerry Media Player (behind-the-scenes) to play the audio, it requires that 100kb of audio be buffered before it will begin playing. Unfortunately, the amount of data it requires to be buffered cannot be changed.
