The BlackBerry App world wasn’t the end of the Apple iPhone competition.  It looks like a green light Research in Motion to add a music store to their devices which pushes the BlackBerry even further to the consumer side. The deal going on is with 7Digital which currently provides MP3 downloads to people visiting the website wanting to purchase songs and albums.

Currently, 7Digital is the UK’s leading digital media delivery company, and power over 1,000 digital properties, including our own 7digital download stores in the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Austria and Portugal.  Seeing them venture with Research in Motion is a big deal for both as 7Digital gets its feet wet in the United States market while RIM becomes a bigger competition to Apple.

So what are the rates like for buying music? Tracks will cost the same as via the company’s website – 99 cents for a track or $9.99 for an album in the US, or 79p/£7.99 in the UK. Of the six million tracks available, most will be DRM-free.  It is said to launch in September so it is obviously in the making now.

Stay tuned for more information on the BlackBerry and 7Digital partnership for a music store.
