Hands On with Google Voice for BlackBerry
by The PocketBerry Team
The time has finally come. After seeing aftermarket applications for Google Voice and coping without BlackBerry functionality for it, the official app has landed. As you all know by now the application is released and we have updated our earlier post from this morning saying so. Google Voice hasn’t disappointed at all in any way yet as everything it promised is possible. You can now make calls using your Google Voice phone number through the mobile application as well as send FREE text messages back and forth. The home screen of Google Voice for BlackBerry displays the Dialer and Inbox right next to it.
Within the dialer, you will see an empty box where you can type a phone number in or bring one up from your actual BlackBerry phone book. Below it, you will see that it has a list of all recent calls that were made including incoming, outgoing, and missed calls.

The inbox is very fascinating as it also has a record of all your sent and received SMS texts. When you open one of the messages, you’ll see that the whole conversation is displayed as if it was an IM chat window.
Voicemail settings can be set to play from the handset or speaker by default when you go into the settings which is pretty neat. Within the settings you can also set it to use your cell phone number, or no other number at all, and that’s where you would have to purchase credits to make phone calls.
The application is very basic, yet so handy and useful at the same time. For all those who are Google Voice/GrandCentral customers, feel free to head over to m.google.com to download your copy of Google Voice for BlackBerry. The version available for download is 0.1.415.742.2129. Wow, and I thought BlackBerry OS versions were long!
