Prepaid devices seem to be very popular overseas, especially in Europe.  In the United States we are used to seeing prepaid being too high in price but available for those who cannot or refuse to sign any long term contracts of service with carriers.  Overseas, it is just an easier system, where minutes are very cheap and prepaid “refill” cards are sold everywhere.

As of July 22nd, prepaid BlackBerry services will be available for the first time ever in Malta through the GO carrier.  The BlackBerry packages are range from €9.99 for 10 days to €120 for 180 days.  In the US, we would expect to sign up with BIS and expect a cancellation fee if we only wanted it for 10 days, or any time before the year is over!  In this case since it is prepaid, you can get your BlackBerry services for small designated intervals at a time.

The best part is that any customers who go for the 90-day subscription will automatically get a 25% discount, while those who go for the 180-day subscription get a rebate of 50%.

The COO (chief operations officer) of GO named Norbert Prihoda said: “We are the first local mobile provider to launch BlackBerry on prepaid and we are proud of doing so. This is a unique opportunity for our prepaid customers and I suggest they just go for it and subscribe to the service! The initiative spotlights GO’s ongoing innovation and its commitment to provide its customers with the best and latest services at the most affordable prices.”

Unlike the United States where we see MetroPCS offer the Curve 8330 years after it released, GO is actually offering devices from this day in age.  They are currently offering 3 BlackBerry devices including the BlackBerry Bold 9000, BlackBerry Pearl 8120 and the BlackBerry Curve 8900.
