BlackBerry Messenger outage?

We thought we were crazy, then we got several emails and Twitter DMs inquiring about a BlackBerry Messenger outage where messages are taking a long time to send, receive, or even sometimes not sending or receiving at all for that matter.  BerryReview has also confirmed and reported that they are getting several reports in regards to the issues as well.  In fact, they have trouble ticket open reading:

Severity: 2-Medium
Description of Issue: RIM is experiencing latency with PIN messages. This will affect PIN messages, Blackberry Messenger, Service Book delivery, and other Blackberry services.
Location of Issue: North America and surrounding areas
Start Time: Jul 23 2009 10:00 AM PDT
Symptoms you MAY experience: RIM Blackberry users may be unable to send/receive messages or may have difficulty connecting to the network.
Estimated time of repair: Unknown

    I haven't been able to send/receive messages all day long. And when I do get messages, they're from hours before hand. I'm not very happy.

    me too, been slow or down since morning in California.

    very slow when the messeges do go thru, and most dont go thru at all. Going on for several hours now. Boston here…

    is this a hint that RIM is updating their databases and functions for bbm? maybe we'll see 5.0 release just, like, that.
    whatever it is they need to finish already.

    Messages dont go through….or take a very long time to go through…VZW network..East Coast…

    BBM out in NC as well…AT&T and verizon definitely affected.

    text messages are the ony thing that works. BBM and e-mail is very slow.
