DotTelRoundel

A few weeks ago, we showed you what .tel is all about with a funny commercial they had displayed on their site and how convenient is services are.  Basically .tel domains, which have been launched in March of 2009, have been broadly used by businesses and individuals around the world as a simple and low-cost way of sharing real time contact info under one simple-to-remember name. Accessible from any device, .tel provides a listing in the first ‘live’ global contacts directory accessible by cell phones and through search engines.

Major General Gerry Berragan was pick-pocketed as he traveled by train and immediately notified the Ministry of Defence in London of the theft. The BlackBerry device may have had lots of top secret info on it as it is capable of storing and sending thousands of emails and could have revealed military secrets. The security breach was considered so serious that the new Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth is said to have been informed and ordered an investigation on the matter.  Let’s hope he has some sort of password at least on his device.

Yesterday we gave you a glimpse of the BlackBerry Gemini 8520 via T-Mobile show up in colors such as white.  In addition, we emphasized the fact that it had a sensor pad rather than the traditional trackball every other BlackBerry has.  Now we see the leaked BlackBerry Onyx lose the trackball and gain the sensor pad instead.  We have the BlackBerry Tour 9630 coming out left and right everywhere rockin’ a trackball still so will it be the last of its kind?

In the Looney Toon theme for BlackBerry Bold, you’ll see that the background image is a very stock one of Bugs Bunny laying on his side enjoying his typical carrot.  The icons are all based on Looney Tunes characters from the hit TV show that we all enjoyed as kids, teenagers, and even adults.

P1SK

BlackBerry’s famous services including BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) and BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BIS) are become very worldwide these days as RIM expands their ventures.  We got the word the SK Telecom in Korea has finally received full BIS coverage in their region, enabling customers to be able to use the BlackBerry Internet Service freely, taking full advantage of functions such as push email.  It’s great for businesses and personal use as everyone could use pocket sized Internet based devices.

Here are some key facts from RIM on the release:

BASE storm

The famous BlackBerry Storm which is of the newest available devices via Verizon Wireless rocking a touch screen with SurePress technology, being the first touch screen BlackBerry ever has made its way to other carriers.  BASE, carrier in Belgium has announced on the 7th this month that it will carry the BlackBerry Storm offering the BlackBerry Internet Service plan free for the first three months.  At only €489, BASE customers will be able to enjoy the wonderful features in the BlackBerry Storm and get more acquainted with the data plan as it will be offered free for the first three months as mentioned earlier.  Strategies like these make customers satisfied and more confident in signing up with data plans.  How well would that strategy work in the US?

zeldatheme

Here’s another cool theme we came across earlier this morning for the BlackBerry Storm 9500/9530.  It’s based on the hit Nintento game Zelda which is still around throughout the series of systems released.  What’s really cool about the theme is that it has pixelated icons of stuff from the actual original game, giving the whole theme a retro look to it.  Fonts and backgrounds have modded as well.  The home screen contains 4 customizable icons and the menu remains the same dimensions as it is 4×4 icons.  Check it out and let us know what you think.

Friends

Snikkr provides great location-based services on your mobile device: mapping, directions, and local search. Snikkr knows where you are, and can help you get where you are going with just a few clicks.

Unlike other location-based application Snikkr lets you do a lot of this without a lot of typing or re-typing. With incredible features, Snikkr takes social networking to a whole new level.

Snikkr lets you share your location, status and favorite places with your friends, family and co-workers on the go. You decide how much to share with each friend, and for how long. Going on a trip with some friends for the weekend? Snikkr let’s you share your location and relevant places with those friends for the next 48 hours. On Monday morning, your location stops being shared.

But people don’t need to be in your social network for you to share with them. You can send your current location and a map to anyone in your contact list, or anyone you are meeting with.

Plus, Snikkr can share your status with Twitter, and your location with Yahoo FireEagle.  Unlike other mobile social networks, Snikkr makes it easy to share just what you want to, just when it makes sense.

tmonews8520

TmoNews got a screenshot of a flyer for T-Mobile displaying an all white BlackBerry 8520, which I am not to fond of.  Not to say that the term “BlackBerry” lost its meaning in this one, but it just looks to G1-ish.  It’s just another change in the BlackBerry market we will all get used to and then it won’t be such a big deal.  Who remembers the switch from the scroll whell to the trackball?  As you all know this one is making the switch as well as it has the new optical trackpad navigation.  The main purpose of this device seems to be an entry level BlackBerry device, cheap for everyone to purchase, and a definite step into the BlackBerry door.  So far we had seen it in black color in all the screenshots, and here we see it in white for the T-Mobile slide.  Will it come in both white and black? Just white? Just black and this image just for show? Who knows.

Picture 1

It’s officially a public beta today for everyone to download but it’s odd to see a new build just a day later after the first beta came out.  The one from yesterday was a 0.9.0.117 and it is now 0.9.0.121 on the actual WordPress for BlackBerry page.  Any way, here are the fixes for this build:

  • Corrects a problem with some self-hosted WordPress sites with version < 2.7
  • Fixes an issue with WordPress installs in subfolders
  • A few spelling / copy issues
  • Fixes a categories issue

To download WordPress for BlackBerry, tune your BlackBerry Browser to blackberry.wordpress.org/install
