Sarah Michelle Gellar has been off the scene for quite a while, but owning a BlackBerry just brought her right back in.  In the picture, she is using a BlackBerry Curve 8900 it looks like, but some may say it is a BlackBerry Storm.  The Storm has not made its successes much with celebrities as they all rock Bolds and Curves for the most part (occassionally seen with 88xx, respect).  So what else is in her hands? As a full time Starbucks lover, I recognize the “venti” ice coffee cup in her hand which could also be a “shaken ice tea with lemonade” as well.  The drink is far too dark to be a tea from what I’m seeing but it is confirmed to be a Starbucks cup!  Special thanks to Sarah Michelle Gellar for being a loyal BlackBerry user.

Earlier yesterday a newer version of WordPress for BlackBerry was released.  It is now currently up to version 0.9.0.140.  Betas for this software have been releasing quite rapidly as they want to make sure it is done right by the end.  So what’s new in this build? We got quite a few convenient fixes:

• Improving response time of the user interface (ticket #58 UI response time)
• Removingthe photo multimedia option in the app because photo settings are managed in the main BlackBerry camera app
• Fixing a bug with local drafts (ticket #57)
• Adding prompts to save post when clicking “Back” button (ticket #59)
• Fixing a bug involving categories (ticket #60)
• Fixing how private posts were not publishing correctly (ticket #61)

Mac user or not, this is the best Mac OSX Theme for BlackBerry out there yet.  Full customization was implemented in making this theme as you can see.  An exact replica of your traditional Apple bar has been put right into the theme.  Icons are all phenomenal as they all are stock from Leopard.

Great features in this theme include:

• Authentic style dock with exact background image used by default in Leopard
• Icons on dock smoothly rise as you hover over them to give a similar dock animation effect
• Today area for both calendar and messages
• Color scheme for selections, confirmation buttons, and even multi-select are using identical Finder color shades.

Today RIM has went ahead and released new and improved tools for developers building applications for BlackBerry.  The first plugin was launched on Tuesday with a version 1.2 for Microsoft Visual Studio.  Basically the tools enabled developers to build BlackBerry apps within Eclipse and Visual Studio environments.

Both plug-ins include BlackBerry smartphone simulators for application testing, together with application profiling for checking on the data traffic and load time implications of web content used in the applications.

The Eclipse plug-in, which is compatible with version 3.4 of the environment, allows the debugging and profiling of HTML and CSS-using web pages, and of rich internet applications using Ajax, Silverlight, PHP, ASP, Ruby on Rails, JSP and Python.

Once upon a time we had applications where you could use your BlackBerry as a remote controller for other units such as your computer.  Now we have Bluetooth enabled controllers FOR the BlackBerry smartphone itself.  Enhanced gaming perhaps? How about put your BlackBerry on a stand and flick through your favorite film.  What ever your usage may be, it’s pretty cool, just not sure how essential it could become.  We got hold of the press release from Zeemote themselves, just so you can get a better idea on the product itself.

Elecite.com just released their latest theme called Eerie.  The theme itself is very “Ed Hardy-ish” and has awesome vintage icons for all your applications.  What’s so cool about this theme? It has dual screen mode meaning you can have two sets of home screen icons and switch between them whenever you want.  For only $6.99, you can have this awesome theme for your BlackBerry.  Currently it is compatible with the 88xx, Curve 83xx, Bold 9000, Storm 95xx and Curve 8900.  Personally, this is among my favored themes now (my other is the Noble theme by Elecite as well) just because of the dual screen mode option which makes it all worth it.  Why narrow yourself down to 6 shortcuts when you can have a whole other set as well?  Dual screen works for the 8900, 9000, and 95xx only.  Sorry 83xx-ers and 88xx-ers, but at least you can have this theme and still enjoy every other aspect of it.

We all saw the official WordPress application that released a few weeks ago for BlackBerry and how convenient it can be for those blogging on the go.  Wicked WordPress App by Screaming Toaster is an aftermarket application for WordPress that does everything you can do in the original app, except more.  Attributes and capabilities include realigning text and pictures which alone is a huge deal.  In our native WordPress app, it is very limited as to what we can do from it, and unfortunately still needs some work.

The folks over at BerryReview have put together a nice list of download links for the all new BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.  Each OTA link displays which device it is for right next to it, so make sure you download the correct version.  Be aware that some people have experienced problems with BBM 5.0, as it still is not officially released yet.
