skyfire-8

As we saw yesterday, Skyfire made its quick and beautiful appearance in our lives as it leaked all over the Internet.  Within a few hours, Skyfire surely put a stop on all its BlackBerry users.  So what’s the main reason or cause for this?  It could be as simple as the fact that they saw leaks of their own alpha software all over the Internet, and wanted to prevent everyone from seeing how the program worked.

As we featured on our site today, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is coming this season to a T-Mobile dealer near you by August 5th.  One of the blog writers over at Inside BlackBerry was able to interview the product manager of the BlackBerry Curve 8520, providing many answers to questions you all hopefully had.

Can you describe your role at RIM?

  • I’m the Handheld Product Manager for the BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone. I define the requirements for the product and work with cross functional teams from the product concept phase through to development leading up to the global launch.

What was the vision for the new BlackBerry Curve?

  • To offer an entry level smartphone and provide an update to the BlackBerry Curve 8310/8320 products. The new smartphone addressed the aspirations of people currently using a mid tier feature phone to step up to a BlackBerry smartphone that’s affordable and meets their lifestyle needs.

In 2010, expect to see an amazing remake of Alice in Wonderland, this time by Tim Burton, and a lot more eerie twist to the story.  The famous Johnny Depp will be playing as the Mad Hatter and as you can see in the theme, he is one scary fellow.  This theme has custom icons and 3 different screen shot images from the movie including the characters in their strange poses.  There aren’t much of any leaks out there so consider this theme to be exclusive as it has some rare shots of Alice in Wonderland the movie.  Special thanks to Jennifer over at CoolBlackBerryThemes for making this amazing theme.  Continue reading to view more screen shots and OTA link.

Those of you who saw the incredible Wolverine film could all agree how cool it was to have Gambit there.  As much as we wanted him to appear more in the movie, he still did make his appearance, and a great one at that.  This theme is for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 only.  It is based on the X-Men character Gambit who is famous for his unique deck of cards.  The icons are really sharp looking as you can see and the background images all are of Gambit in different variations.  The OTA link is available below.  Enjoy.

The folks over at BerryReview posted a link they received for Skyfire 1.0 that apparently got leaked online and is still currently available for download.  If you’re not familiar with what exactly Skyfire is, click here to read our full scoop on it.  To get to the main point, its a fully loaded browser equipped with embedded media capabilities meaning you can stream videos within the actual web site without using your native BlackBerry media player.

UPDATE: It looks like no one is having luck with Skyfire since earlier this morning.  Servers via Skyfire may have been shut down due to this leakage of their private alpha software.  If you decide to download it and have any luck with it, let us know!

time app for blackberry

TIME Magazine has released its BlackBerry application which is pretty cool.  You can browse through categories and read through articles and different topics you enjoy and love.  This is so much easier than navigating through an actual magazine.  This is the 21st century, and sad enough everyone is reading their news on their BlackBerry smartphones.

To download this app for free, point your BlackBerry Browser to app.time.com

It is confirmed that the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is releasing August 5th as we had heard before.  All the leaked images we receiving the past including the dedicated media keys and sensor pad were all true as that is what RIM says it has to offer in this device.  For all those who were concerned, the device does indeed come with WiFi, so it is not as basic as you thought it would be.  The all new media hot keys up top make this device a very multimedia friendly device, drawing you away from the whole corporate BlackBerry every assumes.  This is the beginning of a new generation of BlackBerry devices.

The Carbon Slick theme is available for both the BlackBerry Curve 83xx series and the BlackBerry Bold 9000.  The icons are very similar to the Storm as you can see, just cunstomized a little bit more.  The indicators are still up top, just rearranged to give you a different yet better feel for the device.  The background is a gradient red theme simply with no cluttered images making it hard to see what’s on the menu.  The bottom dock is very convenient as you can change the top applications to what ever it is you desire.  The font for the indicators and application titles are in a pretty cool cursive as well.  The theme is absolutely free and an OTA is available below.  After installing this theme, a battery pull is highly recommended before enabling to ensure premium performance.
