RIM to launch front facing camera on BlackBerry devices early next year
by The PocketBerry Team
The folks over at TinyComb got the lucky opportunity to converse with a Research in Motion executive recently for a few minutes to clear some things up for the BlackBerry lineup next year. In regard to the BlackBerry App World, the RIM official stated that “It’s tough when you are going up against a company operating one platform and perfecting a single piece of hardware.” In talks about its biggest competitor, the iPhone, the executive mentions that the iPhone is a great one but the BlackBerry will continue growing. He emphasized that they are two different phones basically saying that different people go to the different devices favoring different features.
Now, to the really interesting part, the executive gets into talking about different hardware modifications for the actual device. The question to him was somewhere along the lines of “what if Apple’s next generation iPhone devices to upgrade their hardware to include a front-facing camera.” In response the exec said “as I said before, we are fortunate to have our relationships with many different carriers, some of which can handle something like live video-conferencing.” With confidence, RIM isn’t worried about the iPhone getting this addition front-facing camera as it seems they have it in mind. The last thing he said was “video conferencing is something that could completely change the mobile landscape and it is something we have been thinking about and working on for quite some time. You will start seeing something early next year”.
Now let’s wait til 2010, and see what RIM has to unveil as far as a front-facing camera equipped BlackBerry.
