Man steals woman’s BlackBerry at Broadway Station
by The PocketBerry Team
The whole BlackBerry addiction has become a huge part of our lives and some who don’t have to BlackBerry feel the need to strip it away from others. A few months back we saw Kevin Bacon get his BlackBerry stolen in NY. Now we’re seeing crooked criminals still going at it, stealing BlackBerry devices.
A Quincy man who purportedly embezzled a woman’s BlackBerry at the Broadway T station was prearranged held on $1,500 bail after being wedged and detained by MBTA employees, the authorities said.
The story was that Casey Shawn Tarushka who is currently 23 years old grabbed the device from a 25-year-old victim’s bag a little before 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
As Tarushka and a female accomplice got off the train at Broadway, the victim noticed that her BlackBerry was gone, so she chased after him.
When she jammed up to Tarushka and obtained her BlackBerry back, the female accomplice with Casey shoved her.
The victim then ran after the pair, crying out, “Stop him.”
MBTA personnel grabbed Tarushka and held him until transit police arrived and arrested him. His accomplice, described as a white woman with short blonde hair, long fingernails and an eyebrow ring, got away. Authorities said she may be known as “Cat.”
“They made a split-second decision to stop a potential getaway,” Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said of the employees who stopped Tarushka. “We don’t want to see anyone get hurt, but when public employees take decisive action like that, we’ve got to commend it.”
Transit police reported finding a small quantity of marijuana while booking Tarushka. Police said he told officers that he had been on the way to a methadone clinic.
