We are all excited for the new BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac which is expected to release by September.  Today we learned more as to what the software is and is not going to offer.  There were rumors spreading that BlackBerry Desktop Software was going to be bundled with the all new 8520, and everyone was very sure this was going to happen.  Apparently it was a play on words and furthermore just a misinterpretation on RIM’s part which then got twisted through many blogs and forums on the web.

In addition, BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac is aimed at consumer users apparently due to the small market share it holds.  The software will not have many of the corporate-mail such as Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, and things of that nature.  In the Mac’s case, there won’t be Entourage/Outlook support period for it.

The biggest downfall that many of you will be disappointed with is the fact that leaked OS versions will NOT load through your Mac.  Apparently it has been said that there is something embedded in the software that prevents BlackBerry Desktop Software from allowing it.  Who knows, maybe it will be a matter of time before the software gets a “jailbreak.”

In my opinion, I will continue running BlackBerry Desktop Manager via VMWare Fusion with a loaded copy of XP primarily until the BlackBerry Desktop Software proves itself to be a mirror image of its PC version.
