Today the 8520 finally, officially launched for us here in the US via Walmart and T-Mobile retail stores.  The device is one of the cheapest starting BlackBerry prices on the market, which will be interesting to see more and more people switch to BlackBerry because it is now more affordable.  What’s next, a cheaper data plan perhaps?

Start-Me-Up

Start Me Up is a cool utility similar to the one most of us know from PC as “msconfig.”  To break it down,  the application simply allows you to decide which apps you want to start up upon booting your BlackBerry.  Some may find this useful for apps they want running the background but stay closed upon booting by default.  Click here to download your copy OTA.

The famous entertainment magazine Maxim has recently released their mobile website, enabling BlackBerry users all over the planet tune in.  So what’s the site have to offer? There’s a “Girls,” “Humor,” and “Downloads” section on the site, keeping it basic.  The “Girls” page contains a hand picked girl of the day along with the top 100 girls on Maxim.  On the “Humor” page you’ll see sections such as “stupid fun,” “jokes,” and “found photos.”  If you are subscriber of this magazine, this is a great way to get a broad glimpse at Maxim’s content, and if you’re not, I guess it could be looked at as a freebie.

Point your BlackBerry Browser to mobile.maxim.com to visit the Maxim Mobile site.

RIM-Blackberry-rotator-1

Unwired View got their hands on some new patented sketches by RIM.  By the looks of it, these devices are indeed strange and unusual.  It’s one of those love it or hate it concepts, mostly “hate it” on my part at least.  From what it looks like, RIM is trying to catch up with flip phones which they already did and failed, and now slider devices.  In this case the slider phones operate a little differently as they have screens that tilt to landscape modes and some very oddly designed keyboards.  Check out the one with 2 SureType keys and the rest QWERTY, confusion anyone?

blackberry9990sm

Confusion indeed.  What a big jump.  We were all sitting around waiting for OS 5.0 to debut and here we have leaks of a OS 5.7. Talk about a good look into the future.  Besides the OS, what is a BlackBerry 9990?  Someone over at the forums posted it today opening lots of eyes.  Lots of confusion occurred when the Verizon inventory list was updated with a BlackBerry Thunder and everyone thought it was something new when it was most likely just a code name for the Storm 2 aka 9550.  In this case, there really is no way to explain unless someone did an amazing Photoshop job in my opinion.  What do you guys think?
