Equip ZoomSafer when driving to keep your eyes on the road, not your BlackBerry
by The PocketBerry Team
Today we went ahead and got our hands on the beta version of ZoomSafer for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 and wow, we are very impressed by it. Not familiar with ZoomSafer? ZoomSafer is software and services for mobile phones to prevent distracted driving. It’s simple to download and easy to install. ZoomSafer uses GPS in combination with client software installed on your phone to determine when you’re moving faster than 10 mph. When driving, we activate our safe driving services to minimize distractions and keep you focused on the road. So back to the app, it works as though it has a mind of its own. When ZoomSafer detects that you are moving faster than 10 miles per hour, a Safety Announcement plays and serves as a personal reminder to drive safe and less distracted. Similar to the ding-ding-ding to remind you to put on your seat belt, when ZoomSafer launches you’ll be able to create your own Safety Announcements, have friends or loved ones record them, or choose from fun celebrity quotes or annoucements.
The voice portal option we found in the app was really interesting. Feel free to express yourself with your own voice over email, text messages, twitter and more. The Voice Safety Portal that ZoomSafer provides is an exclusive feature of the ZoomMate offering, enables your voice, and not your thumbs, to create and reply to e-mails and text messages, post updates to Twitter and Facebook, and using your ears, and not your eyes, listen to your messages as well as your favorite news, sports and weather feeds.
Upon starting it up, you’ll see your Profiles go to Silent with no vibration and then ZoomSafer will open up. Upon the application opening, you’ll get a voice over giving you tips and tricks and warning you not to talk on your phone while your drive. After that you will not be able to use your BlackBerry for any reason unless any of the 3 contacts you chose before do call, then it will bypass ZoomSafer. When exiting the application, it will ask you if you finished driving or if it is another passenger in the car that wants to use the phone. After exiting, you’ll see your profile change back to “Normal” and your phone is in full use once again.
So far we think it will be a great application for everyone to use. BlackBerry usage while driving has become very dangerous over the years and applications getting promoted like this can prevent tragic motor vehicle incidents from happening.
