AT&T Browser not working via OS 5.0? Follow these steps to fix..
by The PocketBerry Team
Downloading OS 5.0 gets really exciting, knowing that you’ll have a whole new BlackBerry interface with lots of new goodies and improvements. It’s a really big shame to have to downgrade after finding out MediaNet and HotSpot Browser are the only two browsers you can use. So what’s that mean? You’re going to downgrade again back to OS 4.6 all over again. Downgrading a BlackBerry OS is one of the most depressing actions you’ll ever face, so let’s make sure that doesn’t happen. The main issue here was when OS 5.0 is installed on the AT&T BlackBerry, the Browser and MediaNet icons are visible, but they both take you to MediaNet which can get very annoying. If you thought you had to downgrade your BlackBerry OS after seeing that, then we have great news for you. We’ve got great steps you can follow to get your Browser up and running.
1. First off, download this administrative app BBSAK to your PC and feel free to install it right away.
2. As BBOS also suggested, make sure you backup all info on your BlackBerry because that’s always the safest thing to do!
3. After your BlackBerry backs up, feel free to connect your BlackBerry to yourPC via the USB data cable
4. Now back to BBSAK, there should be an icon on your desktop for it. Click it!
5. Select ‘Read System’ on BBSAK’s menu
6. Highlight “net_rim_bb_browser_daemon.cod” and make sure you click ‘Save COD’ (confirm it has saved by going to the BSAK folder in Program Files – VERY IMPORTANT)
7. After confirming you have saved that file, you must now click ‘Remove COD’. Do not panic! Your BlackBerry will reboot which is completely normal.
8. Now we get to go the official BlackBerry Desktop Manager where you will select “Backup/Restore” then select “Advanced”
9. You will need a copy of AT&T service books, so click here to download those to your desktop PC.
10. Next, get back to BlackBerry Desktop Manager and in the Advanced Restore on the left side select File >> Open >> and select the service books for AT&T that you just downloaded to your desktop.
11. You’ll see the service books appear on the left on one line. Make sure you highlight it and transfer it over using the “>>>” looking button. Service books will be loaded to your BlackBerry after doing so, so allow it to happen and disregard error messages you may or may not get.
12. Now you must go back to BBSAK and click ‘Install COD’. When asked which file, point it to C:/Program Files/BBSAK/CODs/net_rim_bb_browser_daemon.cod. Your BlackBerry will reboot itself after this which is also completely normal so do not panic once again! Disconnect USB wire when rebooting.
13. After it boots up, head over to the AT&T BIS site, and resend your service books. You’ll be good to go!
SO approximate time? It shouldn’t take you more than 10-12 minutes to finish this whole operation. Be relieved at last because you can now have full browser capabilities on OS 5.0.
