BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 officially launches
by The PocketBerry Team
The rumors we heard a few days ago about BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 officially launching appeared to be true. Many were convinced that they weren’t due to the official app releasing so late throughout the day. Any way, to get BlackBerry Messenger 5.0, head over to the BlackBerry App World (or head to blackberry.com/messenger) and download it. As for compatibility, any BlackBerry running 4.5 OS or higher will be compatible. Many blogs and forums reported that you may have no luck on any of the leaked versions of OS 5.0, but so far we have tested BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 (official build of course) on the BlackBerry Bold 9000, Curve 8900, and Storm 9530 which are all running OS 5.0 at the moment. If you’re having compatibility issues let us know.
So what’s the new messenger look like? We’ve had the leak for sometime and the official seems to be shaped and shifted different. You’ll see on the top of your contacts list an “Invite Contact” option right there which is a lot more convenient than the traditional hitting menu then selecting “Add a Contact.” When adding a contact, you can still add by entering a person’s email address, pin or name, scan a barcode number of the other, and now enter their phone number right then and there which is very impressive. At this rate, people will stop Does anyone remember the proximity alerts you could set? It appears that has been removed out completely being an unsuccessful add-on to BlackBerry Messenger. So go ahead and download BlackBerry Messenger over at the BlackBerry App World (or blackberry.com/messenger)and let us know how you like it.
