Thoughts on BlackBerry Bold 9000 OS 5.0.0.314

BOLD OS 5.0.0.314

The release of OS 5.0 was exciting for many of us as it brought many new features and look to the BlackBerry Bold 9000 as well as other devices which were fortunate enough to get the update. These were all leaks so far of course so we did install it taking the risk of having a “BrickBerry” in the end.

The last 5.0.0.238 update was lots of fun, but in this last .314 version, it looks like a lot of nice changes were made. We’re not going to go through the obvious OS 5.0 features, but more on what the .314 version brings. First, we see that the indicator for SMS has changed in color and is no longer blue as it is now a yellowish color. There was too much confusion when getting notified before as both BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) and SMS messages were in blue color. Now that it is all differentiated, confusions get pushed out of the way.

So aside from the indicator, we loved seeing that the highlighted icon is now blue in the background instead of being black. It is made clear which icon is currently highlighted which is pretty cool.

What I personally love about the OS is that when the Send/Share option has now been turned into a full tab where you can navigate to the right to select the way you would like to send or share a file. I wish Bluetooth was included but perhaps we’ll see that in the official.

We’re still messing around with the OS and we’ll continue to update the bare necessities as it comes up for us so stay tuned folks!
