Storm2 to be short-lived with Motorola Droid around the corner?

Let’s all think outside the box right now and put ourselves in a regular consumer’s mind rather than the average BlackBerry addict that stays loyal to his or her devices.  The original BlackBerry Storm 9530 was brought to Verizon Wireless exclusively as I am sure many former BlackBerry users gave it a shot, but also others who wanted the touch screen (perhaps iPhone) experience.  Now we have the Droid by Motorola coming to Verizon Wireless, making it the first Android based device.

So what’s the significance?  Android is another big competitor of the iPhone which is an open source OS by Google and is now being put into the Motorola Droid.  Since it is now coming to Verizon Wireless, there of course will be huge competition between the Droid and the Storm2.  At the same time, perhaps not.  Many were fed up with the original BlackBerry Storm 9530, causing no future ownership of a secondary BlackBerry Storm that would ever release.  The Android platform has gotten lots of great feedback and has attracted many consumers since its T-Mobile G1 launch.  We aren’t trying to compare both the Droid and the Storm2 here, but making a clear point that due to the huge loss of interest in the Storm branded BlackBerry devices, the Droid could have the better advantage in providing a reliable one to customers seeking touch screen devices.

Should RIM push out the Storm2 more to the public?  I could imagine that would help as the Storm2 received very little publicity and was almost like a silent launch from RIM’s end.  How is the Droid doing publicizing? Very well.  The BGR got this photo above of what they’re doing in Time Square making it all “Droid-ed” out.  Time to step it up RIM.
