BlackBerry 9900 coming in 2010?
by The PocketBerry Team
It’s been an amazing year for RIM as they released various devices including the BlackBerry Storm 2, Bold 9700 and Tour 9630. A few months back we told you about the QWERTY device with touch screen that was expected to release some time next year. It looks like those rumors and details are starting to come up again as we get closer to the end of 2009. The BlackBerry will supposedly be a QWERTY slider to compete with devices by Nokia and HTC.
Back in September, we were told this BlackBerry 9900 was codenamed “Blackhawk.” According to the rumors, the device is currently in a prototype stage at the moment, with best hopes of a release at some point in 2010. Given that it is a prototype, I won’t hold my breath as it probably will launch right before the end of 2010.
The Kaufman Bros. have some insiders where they heard the device was currently in progress. Also, RIM announced that it is going to integrate a Webkit browser sometime in the near future, which will of course be bundled with a new BlackBerry operating system. The analysts from Kaufman Bros say they also heard that the BlackBerry 9900 will use browser technology from Google and Microsoft, meaning that it might very well support Google Gears and Microsoft Silverlight. During the BlackBerry Developer Conference, we saw RIM announce Flash support for the BlackBerry which is also an integration we are excited to see.
What else did RIM introduce? Open GL was a big deal at DevCon which will enable 3D graphics on the BlackBerry. Let’s hope we see this in the 9900 series BlackBerry as well. Doing so would be a big stand off in front of the Droid which too many poor folks are hyping up.
There is no word on exact release dates, just little teasing hints here and there on the BlackBerry 9900. Stay tuned for more info.
