Bell put out this funny advertisement pushing the BlackBerry service.  Pictured is the BlackBerry Tour, as it is one of their latest devices.  The picture is fuzzy but reads “Chat in China. Email in Egypt. Travel the world with Bell’s latest global BlackBerry.”  The message being put out here is that the BlackBerry is a portable device which has services available worldwide so you’ll always feel connected.

ebay

Beautiful day in San Francisco as it looks like eBay will be taking advantage of BlackBerry’s push services for notifications here.  Items will be easily synced with the calendar, informing you when an item ends or needs to be shipped perhaps.  A whole seller’s platform is supposed to be designed all for the BlackBerry.  What we would love to see is a widget similar to Facebook picture uploading.  Basically, if I wanted to sell an item, I could take a picture of it, and have an option “send to eBay” just like Facebook has the “send to Facebook” option.  The application is supposed to be released sometime this month as it has been confirmed at the conference.

blackberry-app-world

The BlackBerry App World had some great announcements today with the new availability of theme submission.  That’s right, you’ll be able to purchase and download themes from the BlackBerry App World.  RIM also just announced that PayPal won’t be the only means of purchasing items on the BlackBerry App World.  You’ll have the choice of having it billed through your carrier on the monthly bill or pay through credit card as well.  PayPal is not phasing out or anything, but instead alternatives methods will be given soon.

blackberry academic program

Here’s a twist we weren’t expecting to see offered at the BlackBerry Developer Conference.  RIM just finished announcing the BlackBerry Academic Program which will provide colleges and universities all over the world with course content and a curriculum to offer courses in administering and supporting the BlackBerry solution and development on the BlackBerry platform.  Professionalism is key when it comes to BlackBerry and as many leading businesses are onto the device, it could become a nice swiss army knife in the workplace.  You don’t see Apple iPhone courses being handed out these days, do you?

“Career opportunities in information technology are abundant, and there is increasing demand for people with expertise in managing BlackBerry products and services and developing BlackBerry applications,” said Robert Crow, Vice President, Industry, Government and University Relations at Research In Motion. “Millions of people are using BlackBerry smartphones in more than 170 countries today and the BlackBerry Academic Program will help colleges and universities prepare students for careers in technology and help to meet the growing demand for BlackBerry developers, administrators and technical support professionals in the global marketplace.”

9700

Supposedly, this device comes unlocked from the carrier, but you will be paying a nice 499.95 euros for it as well.  We just got the tip from the folks over at BBOS, who found it T-Mobile Germany’s website available for download.  The US version sure didn’t come unlocked, so it is quite a blessing seeing it unlocked the overseas carrier.

adobe-flash-logo

You all were waiting to see what was to be of RIM and Adobe as far as application development goes.  As we expected to hear about the good news later in the week, it was brought to us today (with no complaints on that whatsoever).  RIM and Adobe announced that application developers will be able to use Adobe Flash (platform) technology and Adobe Creative Suite content development along with authoring tools to create BlackBerry apps as well as enhancements for them as well.  The future of RIM seems to be really exciting with all the creativity of the developers and great tools being provided to them from the company.  Continue reading to check out the full press release from RIM.

So far it has been a really exciting day covering the BlackBerry Developer Conference.  As rumored earlier last week, the BlackBerry App World will also hold themes.  Theme developers can now submit their themes to the BlackBerry App World and have them on for sale or free download.  In addition, support for OpenGL ES has been opened as well which means developments of 3D games and graphic apps will be in play now.  RIM also has just announced the BlackBerry Theme Studio which is a suite of design, illustration, and animation tools that are used for the creation of BlackBerry themes.  So if you are a theme builder, make sure you start getting acquainted with the BlackBerry Theme Studio and start submitting your themes to the BlackBerry App World.

As promised, we’re covering the BlackBerry Developer Conference going on this week in San Francisco, California.  It looks like RIM has just unveiled some new services platform for BlackBerry developers which is quite exciting.  They started off by introducing the BlackBerry Advertising Service.  This service basically enables developers to put advertising into their BlackBerry apps.  Think of UberTwitter and how they have integrated advertisements in their free version app.  These strategies were shared with the developers in best hopes to release freeware apps that will include advertising, which will attract more Berry users to download.  What RIM is doing is here basically pushing the idea of free applications out there, which will benefit both the developer in monetizing through the ads, and the app user, which will get the full benefit of having a free app.
