idc_chart

An IDG report claims that the shipment growth for the BlackBerry handheld grew by 35.7% over the years.  In the third quarter of 2008, 14.6% of smartphones (PDAs) sold worldwide were BlackBerry devices.  We see that later in the third quarter of 2009 that the number went up to 19%. On the other side, iPhone shipments had a total growth of 7.1%.  Statistics like these show great results in growth as 7% is pretty high in our economy.  With that being said, BlackBerry shipments increased 5 times faster (or 400%) than the iPhone did.

BlackBerry Developer Conference

Ready for the BlackBerry Developers Conference in San Francisco?  Being prepared for what’s ahead is key in this event.  RIM has released a BlackBerry Developer Conference application showing you everything you need to know about the event.  The app is really savvy and easy to navigate through.  The first tab, “Sessions” will display all the exact events going on, informing you where and when they will be taking place.  “Speakers” shows you all the speakers that will be there along with a little bio on them.  Navigate to “News/Blog” to see the official blog get updated with new articles as they come out.  That makes it easier to get the full inside scoop rather than navigating to the website yourself and refreshing the page.  Getting lost in the conference? Head over to “Maps” to see the full layout of the event and navigate yourself through the places you’d like to be there.

wipe3

1. Start off by going to Options.

2. Scroll down to Security Options and open it.

3. Select General Settings

4. Hit menu key and select “Wipe Handheld

On OS 5.0 it’s a little bit different.  After Step 2, scroll down to “Security Wipe” and select the data you would like to delete.  Here you will see “Emails, Contacts, etc” as well as “User Installed Applications” and “Media Card.Feel free to select all of them if you are looking to wipe the device completely clean.  The missing link in OS versions before 5.0 was being able to delete memory card from that same menu but it looks like it is now here to stay.

There have been several complaints from Rogers customers today who to attempted to order the BlackBerry Bold 9700 only to find out that it is out of stock.  Some even said that orders went through and tracking numbers were not issued because Rogers later discovered that the device was out of order and didn’t run some of their previous online and phone sales through a “rain check” system of some sort.  Are you a Rogers customer seeking a BlackBerry Bold 9700?  Let us know all about the struggle you are currently facing.

battery9700 copy

When the world found out that RIM was using the same Bold 9000 batteries on the Bold 9700, it caused many sad faces.  The Bold 9000 has terrible battery life as you would always have to have a charger handy throughout the day.  So far, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 has shown superb battery life as personally I haven’t had to charge in the middle of the day as it would be required with a 9000.

Just to prove it, lets go through what’s running on it.  We have SocialScope, TweetGenius, UberTwitter running continuously in the background.  WiFi stays on all day of course.  While all of these were running, we used AT&T Navigator for about an hour and a half two times throughout the day.  In addition, about 85 minutes were spoken, about 60 text messages sent out and received, emails from 4 accounts coming in, and BlackBerry Messenger going off all day, we had 65% of battery life by midnight.

white8900

The folks over at BBLeaks got a tip from their AT&T insider showing a white BlackBerry Curve 8900.  Many are saying that this is just a white skin on the device, but AT&T official retail stores do not carry them.  The flyer is part of a holiday special expected to release sometime this month or early December.  Perhaps it is just a picture for the flyer but that would not be a great advertising strategy.  There are no official details on this yet but stay tuned for more.

purple8530

From the way things are looking, Verizon and Sprint just keep tagging along the same devices back to back.  As soon as Verizon announced their BlackBerry Curve2 8530, Sprint had to go ahead and do the same.  I’m just not so sure about the purple colored Curve2 they chose to display.  But have no fear, not only does it come in “royal purple” but black as well.
