Here’s a great theme for the BlackBerry Curve 8900, Tour 9630 and Storm which gives you a unique style of icons and background images. Iris for BlackBerry gives you a “rotary phone’ style home screen as the icons go all around the logo in the middle. A really cool effect we saw is that when you push the center button, it will hide all the other icons around it. Push it again to make them appear. The Iris theme is only $4.99 to purchase for your BlackBerry.

Using Google Voice on your BlackBerry? How many of you were original Google Voice customers when it was GrandCentral well before Google acquired it and changed its name? If you go as far back as being a GrandCentral customer, then you all received the email from Google today stating that GrandCentral will be closing permanently on December 31st 2009. So basically if you have any contacts or messages you need to keep from your GrandCentral account, make sure you download them as a backup or you’ll lose them before the new year.
The exact message reads as:
We’re writing to let you know that we will be closing down the GrandCentral website as of December 31, 2009.
All GrandCentral accounts were upgraded to Google Voice earlier this year, but since that time, you’ve still been able to log-in to your GrandCentral account and listen to old messages there. You will no longer be able to log-in to your GrandCentral account after December 31. Because of this, we strongly suggest downloading any messages or contacts that you want to keep in the next 43 days.
We will send you another reminder before closing down the site, but we suggest you take action now to download any information you want to keep.

Just to tease you folks about the upcoming BlackBerry Pearl 9100, it will be coming with 256MB of flash memory, making itself far much better than the previous Pearl 81xx series. The device is expected to launch sometime in 2010, as we heard many leaked details about it months ago, and saw Salomondrin’s teaser video side by side with the BlackBerry Bold 9000 in white. It’s been awhile since we saw a new Pearl come into the market. Many thought it was phased out, but it looks like SureType devices are here to stay.

Launching the BlackBerry services in China has been a mission for quite some time. China Telecom, which is the smallest of the three major carriers in China is looking to expand itself by adding the BlackBerry to its market. Currently one of the other carriers China Mobile has the iPhone which seems to be very popular among citizens of the country. In June, China Telecom approached RIM in this venture, but there are no specific details on the matter yet. China Telecom plans to bring the BlackBerry over as well as Palm in order to create a competition of some sort against the other two carriers, especially China Mobile with them pushing out the iPhone.

Of course you can view PDF files through your BlackBerry as RIM has allowed that feature through opening attachments and such. Just over the weekend we discovered that Adobe Acrobat has gone mobile straight to the BlackBerry. With this free app by scanR, you can view and fax documents from your Acrobat.com account or even upload document images then have them searchable in your Acrobat account as well.
- Upload documents to Acrobat.com using the camera on your mobile phone
- View and share your Acrobat.com files from your mobile phone
- Send faxes and print from your mobile phone
The application is absolutely free from Adobe as you can have a link sent directly to your BlackBerry or download over the air.
