A whole year.  It’s been a whole year (and change) since we’ve been rockin’ out BlackBerry news, reviews, themes, games, leaks, and much more to you all.  Our start was small, and we slowly but surely made our way up (we’re not done growing yet) to top.  Our forever going mission was to give you all the latest and most accurate BlackBerry updates and did our best to keep in replying back and forth to our Twitter followers which gets overwhelming for many and gets neglected by a lot of other “Twitterized” online publications.  We love you all.  It was a fun year for all of us and none of it could of happened without Berry users like you.  We wanted to wrap up the year with some highlights to remember through 2009.

PowerControl is a handy software that helps you automatically shutdown and power off at a scheduled time you specified. It allows you to set up a power off and on schedule from Monday to Sunday and you can even set up a different schedule for each day.

Imagine you work from Monday to Friday and every day you sleep 6 hours. In these 6 hours most people do not need the device to be switched on and waste battery. You could turn off the device before you go to bed, but this is hard to remember every single day. With PowerControl you will never forget to turn your BlackBerry off and back on.

Back in November, we spotted that the Kindle for BlackBerry is in the works as it was displayed in a very subtle way on Amazon.  The date is near as Amazon has just put up a new banner on their site showing that the Kindle app is coming soon for BlackBerry.  We got a link below for you to sign up for updates to know when the app is releasing.

Thanks hassviper for the tip!

We’re not giving out free information on how to unlock your BlackBerry without any unlock code or anything.  These instructions are for those who do have an unlock code, but don’t know the means of putting into the actual BlackBerry.  This 10 step process should take no longer than 4 minutes.

  • 1. Turn off all of the wireless connections (manage connections – turn all connections off)
  • 2. Go to the Options icon on the device
  • 3. Select Advanced Options
  • 4. Select SIM Card
  • 5. On a Storm, hit Menu key to select Show Keyboard, on a QWERTY/SureType, advance to Step 6.
  • 6. Type “mepd” (keep in mind that you won’t be able to see what you type)
  • 7. Then type the letters  “mep2″
  • 8. Now it will say ‘Enter network mep code’
  • 9. At this time you’ll have to put in your unlock code.
  • 10. Enable your wireless connection with the new sim card inside and you’re good to go.

Browsing via BlackBerry? Click here to view video

The BlackBerry Storm 2 is one of the most unique BlackBerry devices that just intrigues me.  The touch screen is ten times better than its older 9500/9530 and the overall device’s design and material are both sleek and sturdy.  I don’t know about all of you, but I do want to see what its guts look like.  In this video above, you’ll see the BlackBerry Storm 2 disassembled to the core seeing every bit and piece of it.  With this video, you’ll get a better idea on how the sensors work which lay right under the screen also.  So whether you’re browsing our site through your BlackBerry or PC/Mac, take a six minute and sixteen second break to watch this clip.

Silly of me to show you now, but there are many folks out there that strongly believe the Memory Cleaner app does not even exist on their BlackBerry.  I am here to tell you that if you are currently rockin’ OS 4.5 or above, then you got it.  Now, to enable the Memory Cleaning app…

  • 1.) Go to the Options
  • 2.) Security Options
  • 3.) On OS 4.5+ go to “General Settings”, On OS 5.0 go to “Advanced Security Options”
  • 4.) Select “Memory Cleaning”
  • 5.) Change the “Disabled” to “Enabled” and scroll down to “Show Icon on Home Screen” changing it from “No” to “Yes”

There are other options of course in this menu including to clean when your BlackBerry is holstered or even idled.  Those options are up to you.  Now the Memory Cleaning app is located on your home screen which can be moved around any where, in a folder, or even hidden again if you prefer.

We came across this a little while ago, but stumbled back today just to confirm.  We all know that the new BlackBerry Tour got a number “9650″ and is expected to launch sometime in early 2010.  ZAGG seems to be ahead of the ball game in having an Invisible Shield for the BlackBerry Tour 2 9650 well before the device is out.  Looking at the image, it still looks like the original 9630, so we’re expecting to see the images get updated as the device comes closer to launching.  The courteous part about this is, if you do have one now as a pre-release, you can go ahead and get some protection from it, as you obviously don’t have a warranty for it.  In the image above we put both Tour Invisible Shields up so you can see that they are as two separate items.

It’s been awhile since we put out some freebie themes, but we promise we have not forgotten.  Here’s a really sleek theme we personally tested and definitely want to recommend to you all.  It’s for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 exclusively called Bold Docked Panels.  The screenshots are very self explanatory so we’re not going to bother getting into fine details.  The OTA link is available below.  Special thanks to Mobile Themes World for providing this theme.
