Hands on with Splash Money for BlackBerry
by The PocketBerry Team
At first glance, SplashMoney appears to be an easy app to deal with. This holds true as you continue to use it. It is fully customizable, all the way up to different colors for the highlight bars and names for your accounts, the different information you want available for your accounts, and (naturally) the different currency types available. There is an option for a password to keep unwanted parties away from your accounts, which could be very important should you choose to fill out your account number
When adding an account, it is as easy as filling out the name, beginning balance, and an optional account number, should you be like a few of us who cannot remember these numbers for anything. You can label the type of account it is, such as a checking, savings, etc, and to choose a nifty little image from the ones they provide. Once you have the accounts set up, it is a checkbook or multiple in one. In addition, you put in your own transactions, giving them a description and labeling them as deposits, charges, ATMs, payments, and even checks for which you specify the number of next to. The process itself is very simple and easy to figure out yourself. What happens if you mess up and nothing adds up? Simple. Just purge and create a new starting account balance. You can also purge your transactions, say, at the beginning of each month and keep that balance so as not to take up too much memory. The application itself is easy, just on a do-it-yourself basis. The hard part is finding the way to connect it to an online account, which I have yet to do. Overall, it is a program I would recommend if you prefer to keep your own checkbook and be organized. It is better than keeping a booklet checkbook because by already being in your BlackBerry, you will automatically have it with you anywhere you go. There is no, “Oh, I forgot my checkbook, I’ll write it down later” and then forgetting. This is simple and convenient, doing half the work for you. And by being electronic and not wasting trees, it helps you do your little bit to help the environment too. Going green while organizing your green, how convenient.
Likes:
- Smooth, simple interface. Easy to find your way around
- Customizable
- Easier to keep than a booklet
- Can always start from scratch
Dislikes:
- Not for the person who won’t keep their own books
- Could not figure out a sync with the Internet
- Would be nice to see a more graphical interface with some effects
The full application license goes for only $29.95. If you’re looking to expand your personal (and business) financing and would like to really take full control of the contents of your wallet, then consider SplashMoney as a great method to do so.
