As we told you in our first impressions on the BlackBerry Curve 8530, the battery appears to be the same as the 83xx series.  At first we expected the battery to hold out quite long with usage, but it turns out the battery will go out pretty fast throughout the day.  Of course the Bold 9700 has its incredible battery life as it uses the same 9000 battery, but just works ten times longer on a 9700.  Not to compare the two at all, but the reason we expected longer battery life was just because the 8530 is a newer device and maybe RIM would of done the same 9700 magic on it as well.

So how did we run the test?  I used the device through a two day period, with 4 email accounts, having WiFi on all day where it is only available 10am-6pm, with a two hour gap in between.  Also music playing via auxiliary went for about one hour through the day.  BlackBerry messaging roams through morning til night of course, and text messaging rarely used.  These activities are of the same I do on my Bold 9700, where I would come home at midnight witl 3 bars of battery left and the 8530 will have a bar and a half or the single red low battery bar.

We wanted to put it through a stress test at this point as folks from CrackBerry and BlackBerry Cool have when the 9700 released, but as the battery life is not that impressive at the moment, we see no need for it now.

Extended batteries are available through our app store by Seidio where they promise 35% more battery life than the original ranking at 1500mAh.  If that’s not something you’d like to do, then we’d suggest you carry around a wall and car charger throughout the day just in case.

Our tests go on, and we’ll keep informing you all first hand.  If there are any specific tests you’d like us to run or have any questions about the 8530, drop us a line below.
