United Arab Emirates carrier blocks websites accessed via BlackBerry
by The PocketBerry TeamAwhile back the UAE carrier Etisalat had all sorts of issues and privacy breeches. To quickly recap what happened, all BlackBerry users in the UAE using Etisalat services were all pushed a message saying they needed this latest security update which also enhanced speed and performance of the BlackBerry. Later on, it was discovered that this patch was nothing more than spyware where a third party company was able to see all messages sent and received from the subscribers.
Now we see the carrier block websites which included gambling, pornography, VoIP (voice over IP) services, illegal drugs, and terrorist related information sites. Many are unhappy with the new over-ruling, but for the most part this block isn’t so much a bad one. From the look of things, this recent blocking seems to be the result of the latest terrorist threat in which the government started enforcing blocks on those related sites and while they were at it, also blocked other harmful sites.
How do you feel about Etisalat blocking these sites?
