How long ago did you start using BlackBerry?  Many don’t realize how long RIM has been around and most of you never even knew about some earlier devices from the past.  A lot of us grew using the trackwheel, while others may have seen the trackball or trackpad in their first BlackBerry.  Furthermore, others have had touch screen technology from RIM.  Personally my first BlackBerry rocked a trackwheel but I was barely using it given that it was issued for work purposes at the time.

The device seen above is the RIM 950, which was not such a common device.  This device is before the BlackBerry was even called one and the devices just got three digit numbers.  So the RIM 950 wasn’t everyone’s average BlackBerry.  Who got them?  High political figures such as the senators and other government officials were rockin’ the RIM devices out, but they still weren’t that common.

For the mjaority of carriers in the United States, it has become mandatory to have a data plan when upgrading or purchasing a BlackBerry.  Of course many are still floating around with them, which us data plan users still don’t get why you even have a BlackBerry to begin with.  Let’s say you’re one of those people with a BIS-less BlackBerry.  If you wanted to activate BIS, you’d have to do so online (many are restricted), go into a retail store location of your carrier, or call in customer service to activate.

In Saudi Arabia, the top leading carrier Mobily has made BIS activation a charm.  Making it easily activated but customers of all ages, you can simply send an SMS message (text message) to have BIS activated on your BlackBerry.  So basically just send a message to the number “1100″ with the message saying “BIS” and you’ll be good to go on this 2GB data plan.  This deal goes for both prepaid and postpaid (under contract) customers.  On a side note, we find it funny that the Saudis write out BlackBerry in two words as “Black Berry.”
