wowberry

Now I personally never took the time to indulge in World of Warcraft but many folks are excited about this application.  As it just made its way to our application store, we received a tip email from Janice this morning telling us about its availability.  So what does this WoWBerry do for you gamers? You can easily and quickly access detailed character information for the World of Warcraft, using information from the micro armory. You can either perform a new search by choosing region (US, EU), realm and entering character name or choose from saved characters (up to 10) which you have previously searched for.

Info includes:

  • Gear info
  • Skills
  • Talents
  • Stats e.g. Base, Ranged, Melee etc
  • PVP
  • Arena info
  • Reputation
  • Achievements

Empower Screensavers is a free screen saver application for BlackBerry. They’re pretty much simple screen savers that aren’t very demanding of memory at all, so by the same token, don’t expect some 3D light shows.  There are a few of them that are available to download as add-ons as well.  Above is just a screenshot instance of the screen saver.  When in motion, you’ll be a lot more satisfied with this one and many others that you can choose from.

Features:

  • Stunning Screensavers for Blackberry.
  • Shows when Charging to save the Battery.
  • Can optionally be run at different times.
  • Supported on all BlackBerry models with OS 4.2.1 and above.

8530 front

After receiving our BlackBerry Curve 8530 just last week, we’re taking the time to look at every aspect of it, bringing out all the pros and cons.  A really interesting concept we love is the media buttons up top where we normally see the mute and lock button.  No matter what screen you’re on, easily push the middle play/pause button up top to open up the media folder.  Look at is as another shortcut convenience key other than the two on the sides.

When playing or streaming music, one thing that bothered us was that the volume bar does not pop up on the screen as it does with other OS 5.0 devices.  For example, if I am playing music in the background on my BlackBerry Bold 9700, pressing the volume up and down buttons will make a volume bar appear in the middle of the screen where it will show the exact levels.  On the 8530, it appears to stay built in to the media player.  An OS update was not yet performed on the device, so perhaps we’ll see that fix in a later version (if not already).

We were pleased to get an email this morning from some folks over at DevCon.  During the BlackBerry Developer Conference, we were introduced to all sorts of new and coming applications for the BlackBerry platform.  One of which we were happy to hear about was Kik which is the next music application for BlackBerry.  We had 7Digital release a few months ago which was a great interface for purchasing music to download.  So what’s different about Kik?  Kik will allow you to listen to a song you desire three times after listening to a short (and sweet) advertisement.  You can forward music to your friends to listen to as well.  If you like the song, you can purchase it wirelessly right on your BlackBerry.

A few months ago, we were super excited to see the Commuter series cases release.  The Defender series went great on the BlackBerry providing maximum protection and the Impact series did its job as well.  We needed something in between the two, and that’s where the Commuter came in.  Now we’re seeing that a whole new line of cases are going to be released as well but there is no telling what they are.  We are hoping and assuming that the line will be out for the BlackBerry, but it is a matter of time until those details all get confirmed.

If you’re looking to buy some premium apps from the BlackBerry App World, now is the time to do it.  PayPal and RIM have put up a promotion where you can sign up for this money back offer which does just that.  To get in on it, you simply have to enter your email address associated with your PayPal on RIM’s designated page.  Then you have to purchase two applications from the BlackBerry App World any where from December 17 ’09 and January 12 ’10.  Next, you’ll get up to $50 plus tax and fees back from PayPal within 4-6 weeks or by February 23, 2010.

So what’s the catch? It’s quite simple.  Let your friend borrow some money today and ask for it back in a month or so, get it?

fandango for bb

Late November, we got the tip that Fandango BlackBerry application was coming soon.  Today it looks like a leak is going around for a beta version of the application.  We have no word on the beta release, just two OTA links floating around.  As a quick recap, Fandango is a service that lets you purchase tickets in advanced for the movie theater so you don’t have to wait in endless lines at the ticket booths.  After purchasing, you walk right in the theater, then walk to a Fandango machine to swipe the credit card you used and the tickets will come out all in less than a minute.  The native way of using the service was having to get on a PC or Mac to purchase the tickets but now we are extended to using our BlackBerry devices to do so.  Check out the beta over the air (OTA) links below.

We’ve seen premium applications in the past that provide additional security on the BlackBerry platform.  What we haven’t seen yet was an actual spyware app for everyone to use and scan their devices with.  A cool app we came across today is Kisses for BlackBerry which detects and reveals hidden programs and processes running.  It will remove spyware such as FlexiSpy, Mobile Spy, and PhoneSnoop.  Also you can get a list of all your running processes with the application to get a better idea on each process running with further info on it.  Kisses is absolutely free to download from the BlackBerry App World.  Using the application is easier than ever.  Kisses provides the simplest interface where you just select exactly what you’d like to do (scan for threats, view processes, etc.) without taking you in circles and causing your BlackBerry to lag.

Compatibility: All BlackBerry devices
