Now here’s a theme with some nice options and widgets most haven’t seen implemented on a BlackBerry.  Before most of you get worried, this theme is for both touch screen and QWERTY BlackBerry smartphones.  Here’s a quick walk through for trackball/trackpad navigation:

  • Theme Button 1 Up to Notifications Tab (tab will come down to show invisible button is highlighted) Then Click
  • Scroll Down to get to messages on navigation screen
  • Scroll Right from messages to get to calendar
  • Scroll Down from messages/calendar to hidden today or Close notifications button (if no messages/events are displayed will go straight to close button)
  • Scroll Down after clicking on Close to get to Theme button 6
  • shift + A launches about screen
  • shift + S launches google search
  • shift + H hides google search
  • shift + G shows google search
  • $ = profiles
  • Spacebar = QuickLaunch Shortcut

BeNexus has alot of other nice features besides the easy navigation options.  All icons on the theme are fully customized to match up the Nexus One, and yes that includes all the banners as well.  If you take a look around, every aspect has been skinned and transformed somehow.  All icons and wallpapers are customizable by you the user.  There’s a Google Search App built in which makes you that much closer to being a Nexus One.

Compatibility: 96xx, 89xx, 9000, 9700, 96xx, 95xx

BeNexus is only $3.99 til January 19th where it’ll be bumped back up to $4.99 by then.  Head over the PocketBerry Store today and grab your copy.  Enjoy.

Hands on Experience: So far I’ve tried it on the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 and the BlackBerry Bold 9700.  I am a huge fan of the QWERTY 9700 and really enjoy using it there.  To get more of the full Nexus One experience, you’ll have to use a BlackBerry Storm for obvious reasons.  Either way, I enjoyed it a lot on the 9700 with all the cool shortcut keys it has and extra options we don’t see everyday in BlackBerry themes.

I love the fact that I can click Shift + S and type in something I want to search in Google and have it instantly open my browser.  It’s finally nice to see a theme we can get situated with where the lay outs aren’t so different from the standard theme, but instead gets influenced by other widgets and incredible shortcuts.  What I mean by that exactly is that on the Bold 9700, it gives you standardly 6 icons on the home screen (Precision style).  BeNexus gives you just that with all sorts of widgets around not, changing your experience completely, but not confusing you and making it feel uncomfortable for the first few hours.  Definitely check this theme out.
