T-Mobile slashing BlackBerry prices calls for new devices on the way
by The PocketBerry Team
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 which we all have seen for $199.99 from T-Mobile got a big drop to $129.99. In just a a two month lifetime of the device, it has dropped about $70. Next we have the BlackBerry Curve 8520 which was $129.99, and how now dropped down to $79.99. So what’s the real strategy here? It looks like T-Mobile is trying to push out more BlackBerry smartphones as it is a new requirement for all customers purchasing one to sign up with the BlackBerry Internet Service.
Plus, as we mentioned yesterday we have three new upcoming BlackBerry devices. First is the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 aka Stratus, which we’ve seen leaked images and video of already. Next is the new BlackBerry Curve 8910, which kept getting mentioned here and there on Twitter and finally got a leaked image for it. The last one is the Apollo, which we are most confused about til date, but all three of these have their specs and details released. Given that we have some new devices coming soon, price cuts are well obvious.
We don’t know which devices are confirmed to be T-Mobile yet, but the Pearl 9100 and Curve 8910 seem to be quite promising as they are GSM devices and T-Mobile did have that 81xx and 8900 as well. The Apollo is the mysterious device that we only have specs for but still no screenshots of it. This is allegedly the new Curve according to the leaked rumors. Screenshots haven’t been leaked out yet but, by the looks of the specs, we should expect to see it come to T-Mobile.
Not to get so deep into what’s coming up in the future, T-Mobile is cutting its prices down for two main reasons. One is to get people on to the BlackBerry with its data plan, and second is potentially due to new devices coming in the future.
