How about a BlackBerry Tablet?
by Mac Jadalhack
Our friend Kyle from BlackBerry Cool brings up a valid point. How about a BlackBerry Tablet? The idea doesn’t seem so far fetched, especially with the obvious large amount of BlackBerry subscribers today. As most of you know, the iPad which was officially announced today has some flaws itself. As the commercial and previews seemed amazing, it has some flaws. Steve Jobs messed up today in showing a web browsing demonstration where he goes to a website requiring a Flash plugin. There’s a flaw itself and I’m sure many were turned off by the idea. For that reason, websites are not rendered correctly as we think it will on the iPad. Kyle points out that RIM would have to implement Flash in their tablet by using Skyfire or something else along those lines. Another good point brought up is the syncing to PC or Mac. The iPad is wireless as ever, but not when it comes to syncing! Yes, a USB data cable is mandatory to sync with your iTunes. I’m very impressed by the iPad presented today, but this isn’t such a huge jump in technology as expected.
In all reality, RIM could develop a quite competitive tablet to compete with Apple’s nice on the eyes but lousy spec’d iPad. So yes, I strongly agree with all that has been said. Wireless connectivity (OTA) is a must. I’m in no position to purchase a wireless tablet that requires syncing via USB. A Flash enabled web browser is a necessity. Websites should come up on the tablet as they do on any PC or Mac. How about SurePress/TruePress technology? A clicking screen doesn’t sound like such a bad idea, but RIM could definitely do without and keep it strictly touch screen. I want to be able to go to the BlackBerry App World, select any app or game to download or purchase, then have it prompt me if I am on a BlackBerry handheld or tablet. That’ll be the day.
