UPDATE: BlackBerry Trackball Replacement Program by T-Mobile
by Mac Jadalhack
Trackballs are so last season. That’s what I say as a Bold 9700 and Curve 8530 user, not to rub it in. So you have a Pearl 81xx, Curve 83xx, or 88xx BlackBerry. Those all come with trackballs and we all know that a trackball’s lifetime is short. T-Mobile is starting a TrackBall Replacement Program to their BlackBerry subscribers who have specific trackball models. This offer hasn’t started yet as we confirmed with two T-Mobile retail locations. Details have not been put out yet, but BlackBerry Blast claims that this is only for the Pearl 8100/8120 and Curve 8320 not indicating if it has started or not. If you’re local T-Mobile store is in with the program now, drop us a line as for right now we’re keeping it as “coming soon” due to our sources who claim so.
UPDATE: We got the confirmed word from BlackBerry T-Mobile reps:
Beginning February 15, BlackBerry Pearl 8100/8120 and BlackBerry Curve 8320 customers that are having trackball issues will have the option to visit a T-Mobile retail store and have their trackball replaced for free.
Requirements of Customer Service Reps
Prior to sending customers to a retail store for a trackball replacement, Customer Service reps will be required to confirm customers are using a BlackBerry Pearl 8100/8120 or BlackBerry Curve 8320 device and use the Keypad / Buttons troubleshooting flow to validate the trackball issue
The Trackball Replacement Program policy will provide key details of the program and steps that will be required to support the program such as:
Scanning the SKU:
- Information to provide customers prior to the trackball replacement
- How to complete the trackball replacement
- What to do if the device is damaged while completing the replacement
Training:
Training for Retail Sales Associates (RSAs) will take place from February 1 to February 15. A BlackBerry Trackball Replacement job aid and training video will be posted on SOLD by February 1. The job aid and training video will show RSAs how to remove defective trackballs and insert the replacement.
