We heard leaked details on a BlackBerry slider device some time ago, and assumed it would be of the Storm series.  So what do we know so far? From what we understood, it would have a sliding keyboard in portrait mode, keeping very “BlackBerry-like” and not so HTC-ish.  Boy Genius talks about these rumors for the device:

  • It’s a portrait-oriented slider. While most people assume a device with slideout keyboard would end up being something like HTC’s devices, we’ve been told this particular handset is more like the Palm Pre in terms of layout.
  • The phone will run BlackBerry OS 6.0
  • The rumored device will 100% support Wi-Fi 802.11n
  • The resolution unfortunately has not improved, it is still 360×480.
  • No word on if this will have a touch screen, but we’d assume so, and our source alluded to this possibly being what the rumored BlackBerry Magnum/Dakota evolved into. Not saying there won’t be a Bold-like device with touchscreen, optical trackpad, and physical keyboard, but this might be released first.
  • If it does have a touch screen, this could in fact be the mythical BlackBerry Storm slider — picture a Storm 9520 with a slide up Bold-esque keyboard.
  • The phone will not be a Verizon exclusive — it’s supposed to be a GSM/HSPA device.

Special thanks to our contributing author Ryan for sending this one in!  It looks like there are more exclusive emoticons you can use on your BlackBerry now, but not freely everywhere.  These can only be seen via BlackBerry Messenger.  Upon waking up today, I was chatting with Ryan on BBM and all I could ask in my head was “great scott, what are all these tacky symbols and emoticons on your user name?”  Kindly, he sent them all to me and I am now overwhelmed with BlackBerry Messenger emoticons that I haven’t ever seen before.  Where’d these come from? Who discovered them to begin with? Whoever it was, thanks for passing it right along!  Above is some of the symbols, but they couldn’t all fit in one screenshot, so you’ll have to try them out yourselves!  Before you panick, the emoticons aren’t going to come up as the images you expect when copying them.  When pasting them into BBM, you’ll be able to see them all.  Hit the jump to copy and past them all today.

We were following Seesmic on Twitter closely today as they posted about releasing a new major update in the next hour, but really ended up taking longer than that.  Any way, we are always pleased in seeing new updates with Twitter applications, seeing who added what, which client is better than the other, and who remains on top.  We’re happy to see that Seesmic as added Ping.fm capability in their application (after acquiring Ping.fm) and capability of adding multiple Twitter accounts.  Super cool if you ask me.  Hit the jump under the screenshots to check out more features on the all new Seesmic for BlackBerry.

Verizon customers have become very oblivious to backups when it comes to BlackBerry.  I don’t know if it’s just me but most of my BlackBerry Messenger buddies who have Verizon end up resending their PIN to everyone, due to lack of backups and device switching.  I blame a lot of this on Verizon doing in-store device exchange, but that isn’t an issue anymore as Verizon no longer does in-store exchanges for smartphones.  So here’s a new user friendly idea I am very fond of Verizon for doing.  I’m not saying Verizon BlackBerry customers need to be spoonfed, as I encourage apps like this to come to other carriers as well, but we’ll see more productivity with this for sure.

Firstly, here’s a screenshot above of what to expect from the all new BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express (BESX).  To me it looks simple but I would certainly like to poke at it a bit before making any assumptions.  Ever since the services were announced, there’s been so much talk about what to expect from it and what services will be included or even excluded.  After reading on some details today, I found that BESX will be very beneficial to lots of folks, including small businesses who don’t want to subscribe with BES as they aren’t on that large of a scale.  BESX seems to be the perfect solution for the guy in the middle.

This app has pretty much been out for quite some time now, but I haven’t given it a test drive yet.  After seeing it’ll work with my PlayStation 3 ‘s built in blu-ray player, I definitely will be playing with it tonight.  Pocket BLU is a free blu-ray player remote control which works right over the WiFi network.  I don’t know of any other blu-ray players that have WiFi capability (I actually haven’t looked into any to be honest) so I’m assuming you’ll need a PS3.  Hit the jump for features of pocket BLU and requirements to use.  Pocket BLU is absolutely free to download from the PocketBerry Store.

We love seeing spoofed BlackBerry devices.  We even received an image of the front face camera fake BlackBerry that one of our writers took as a real one, but turned out to be a fugazy (thanks to readers like you finding out).  So here’s the latest phony Berry called the BlueBerry, but this time they took it to the next level implementing a trackpad (whoaa).  In my opinion they could of made the numbers more accurate because obviously a 9500 is a touch screen Storm.  I guess to the oblivious consumer, it doesn’t even matter.
