BlackBerry Curve Remains Top Selling Smartphone in Q4 2009
by Mac Jadalhack
It looks like the results are in and the BlackBerry Curve makes it in first place over the iPhone more importantly. All these statistics are once again according to IDC Mobile Devices and Technology Trends who do these statistics. The list goes as follows for Q4 in 2009:
1. RIM – BlackBerry Curve
2. Apple – iPhone 3G S
3. Motorola – DROID
4. Apple – iPhone 3G
5. RIM – BlackBerry Pearl
6. RIM – BlackBerry Bold
7. RIM – BlackBerry Storm
8. Palm – Pre
9. RIM – BlackBerry Tour
10. T-Mobile – myTouch 3G
So the BlackBerry Curve isn’t the only one who made it to the top. We have a total of five other BlackBerry smartphones which make it to the list. Coming in 5th place is the one and only BlackBerry Pearl which was RIM’s first multimedia BlackBerry which had camera as well. The Pearl stays around as it is friendly for those who favor small candy bar devices with email capabilities. As time went by, the Pearl fell behind a bit as today’s applications and OS updates tend to leave the Pearl behind. We’re not far from seeing the all new BlackBerry Pearl 9100 which is rockin’ 3G, WiFi, GPS, enhanced memory, and much more.
Right under the Pearl is the BlackBerry Bold. The Bold as you know is a very popular device, especially with Hollywood celebrities. Its size is very comparable to the 88xx series which was very corporate with no camera. The screen size on the Bold is quite amazing as it has the largest display out of all the other QWERTY models.
The BlackBerry Storm comes in next as it goes head to head with the iPhone. The first generation Storm 9500/9530 did not fly so well as there were too many glitches, memory leaks, and other disasters going on for those who purchased it from day 1. The Storm 2 9550/9520 later released bringing superb speeds, true 3G, enhanced memory, and a better feel when typing on the screen. After some time where OS updates released for both the Storm 1 and 2, competition to the iPhone grew as its reliability increased.
Right under the Storm wasn’t another BlackBerry, but the Palm Pre. No big deal. After the Palm Pre stands the BlackBerry Tour. So you had an 8330 with Verizon Wireless and wanted to upgrade. Touch screen devices didn’t appeal to you so what was next? The BlackBerry Tour came in being the next popular QWERTY BlackBerry via Verizon. As many did encounter trackball issues, the device’s warranty covered replacements for the known issue. The Tour is still around today and will continue to be as the all new Tour 2 is expected roll out any time soon with a sexy trackpad. The original Tour recently got OS 5.0, rockin’ and rollin’ better than ever.
So I guess we can say BlackBerry seems to be a popular device among many. At one point in time, we saw the BlackBerry being a corporate emailing device, and today we can all agree that almost everyone can find the means for push email along with all the multimedia features and apps available on the BlackBerry.
