Skype is Coming to Verizon Phones in March

Well, we’re pretty angry to see that the folks at the Skype stand (at Mobile World Congress) had nothing to say about Skype coming to BlackBerry yesterday, but we are very much happy at the same time that it is coming and has finally been announced today.  Of course not only BlackBerry, but to other phones as well.  So what’s the catch? It’s only on the Verizon network right now.  Why did AT&T even bother enabling VoIP?  If you have Verizon, congrats, we’re excited for you.  Otherwise, all these other carriers need to hop on the wagon, especially T-Mobile since they’ve had WiFi calling for quite some time.  It’s very fascinating to see Verizon go at this first before everyone as we hope it won’t be an exclusive agreement.

UPDATE: When I mention being exclusive to Verizon, we’re talking in terms of BlackBerry.  Of course there are other devices such as the iPhone that get Skype with all its functions, but BlackBerry is left out.  Sorry for any confusion folks!

Doesn't Skype have an app for the iPhone? It doesn't seem like Skype is being exclusive to Verizon so I don't find this THAT big of a news.

yes but in terms of exclusivity, its blackberry. theres the iphone that gets it for at&t but not bb. skype has partnered with verizon as a whole bringing skype to all their phones. skype on iphone was more of a deal with apple to get it on the iphone and att oked it. they need to have a deal with at&t as a company to bring it forward. for verizon users, it is BIG enough news bringing voip to them.

Its good news that the two companies have created an exclusive, easy-to-use Skype mobile offering for 3G smartphones. Verizon Wireless 3G smartphone users with data plans can use Skype mobile.
