I spent a few hours playing around with piece, and I am full of a lot of mixed thoughts on it up until now. WiFi File Transfer for BlackBerry allows the transfer of files from a PC or Mac directly to your BlackBerry over Wifi using your browser. No need for Desktop Manager, Media Manager, USB drivers or any other 3rd party applications: Just a WiFi BlackBerry, PC/Mac with browser and a WiFi network.

Now lets start by looking at the program that everyone is raving about. I think on reading the blurb about the software that It looks great. So whats the problem? It says it works on the 9700! So why do I keep getting “problem loading page” with “The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments” So I do, then after a while with no luck I change the port to random in the settings, this will work I think! what do I get? “problem loading page” It does not want to connect, well not for me! so in my rage I calmly and collectively load it onto my 9000.

Now all you do is :

  • “Type this IP address into the PC or Mac browser and start browsing your BlackBerry! Upload and download files directly from the browser.”

So on first impressions I’m a little confused! so I play, click, click! Now I’m listening to Shakira on my PC streaming from my BlackBerry over the WiFI network! The app is pretty cool but it isn’t really practical in my opinion, for me at least.  Let’s dig around in the app some more.

I’m a little puzzled about this application, OK its quick for data transfer from pc to BlackBerry, I can’t seem to transfer data from BlackBerry over to the PC! Now I am getting “problem loading page” again perhaps it is compatable with the 9700 just my wifi cant handle it!

Taking everything into account and looking at what this software does and the fact that you need a computer and to be on the same wifi network as the computer, I would recommend using the data cable that comes with your phone for data transfer. You don’t need to run desktop software to use as your BlackBerry can be used as mass storage device where you can drag and drop. If you are like me I only store data on my memory card and i back it up to pc by copying the whole file over so i am always backed up!

But just because it isn’t my cup of tea, you folks may find it as a very savvy device. Feel free to grab a free trial and take it for a little test drive.

WiFi File Transfer for BlackBerry runs for only $4.99 from the PocketBerry Store through February 28th, where it’ll get bumped back up to $9.99 after.
