Fido has came through this time and launched the BlackBerry Curve 8520 officially. Many of us weren’t expecting the day to come as the Curve 8900 was rumored to release for Fido, but never did. We saw OS updates for the Fido 8520 release too, which was confusing to see before the release of the device. Fido came out with the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 a little over a year ago with BIS services, being the last carrier to ever get it. Seeing the 8520 come to Fido is quite an improvement for the carrier as they aren’t so far behind any more.

It looks like UberTwitter went through another update tonight but with no change log. Upon logging on to UberTwitter on my BlackBerry, I was prompted with an update, but it only brought it up from 0.960 to 0.964. Perhaps it’s only out to fix minor bugs occurring from the previous version. If any of you who decided to download this update find anything new, drop us a line.

It looks liek Poynt has went through a nice update today as BerryReview reports. Don’t get too excited expecting a huge face lift, but it is significantly different. Here are the changes:
- Navigation (as opposed to map only) from current location to destination using BlackBerry Maps
- Date/time stamps for fuel prices
- Ability to turn weather on/off
- New interface (released for non-touchscreen devices with v1.5.2.36) now available for Storm/Storm2 (according to another forum post)
Poynt is absolutely free to download OTA from their website or from the BlackBerry App World. Use the links below according to how you decide to download (or update) it.

So RIM is holding a Super App Webinar quite soon teaching developers like you how to create a BlackBerry app and entitle it to be a “Super App.” In the webinar, you’ll learn everything you need to make your BlackBerry apps “super.” Here are the basic requirements in order to be a Super App for BlackBerry:
- design apps that are stickier, more intuitive, more engaging and more valuable to users
- maximize network efficiency and battery life with “always-on” apps that run in the background, quietly waiting for the right time to spring into action
- add custom menu items and data to the Inbox, Address Book and Calendar so your apps are always one click away
- leverage true push technology to deliver “just-in-time” data with audible notifications and customized messages
The Super App Webinar will be on Thursday, February 25th 2PM (eastern time) featuring Mike Kirkup, from Developer Relations at Research In Motion.

As you all know SmrtGuard has launched its free services not too long ago, and we never really touched up on their application as a whole yet. In this review, Ryan, our new contributing author has touched base on the SmrtGuard, giving us all its ins and outs.
Ok let’s start off by saying BlackBerry is pretty good at security if you were to lose your BlackBerry if you had set it up with a password. So why would you need a guardian? Well a guardian is more than just locking your phone to stop people accessing it. This application runs a free and a pro version, for me the free is great but for some pro (at a cost) is what the doctor ordered. So I’m going to start with the pro as its not everyone’s cup of tea, the pro hits you with remote backup and restore of your data, now we can all backup data at a pc but to be 100% backed up all the time this may be for you.
Rumors »

It’s no surprise to me as AT&T had the BlackBerry Bold 9000 and Verizon had the Tour 9630 which seemed to be similar devices, kind of, but not really. Now we have the Bold 9700 with AT&T and T-Mobile which resembles the Tour a bit more, but smaller in size. So here’s to add to all the model confusions once again. According to rumors (via CIO), the Tour 2 9650 is being renamed as the Bold. We’ve had the Curve series jump in numbers all over the place including 83xx, 89xx, and 85xx. Atleast RIM is keeping it a bit consistent in starting the Bold and Tour with a 9, putting you on the right track somewhat. But then we have the Storm which does too.
