The Oscars are coming up and this app will be lots of fun testing out your knowledge. According to the application developer, you’ll be eligible to win a prize of $100 on a Best Buy gift card. All you have to do is download this free application, choose which films and actors you think will win for 25 different Oscar categories, submit your entry, and you’ll be good to go. All this is done within the BlackBerry app as it’s very straight forward. You can only do one submission per mobile number. You’ll see the full guideline of rules and regulations within the app. Enjoy!

It looks like RIM has quite a booth this year as it is split into two sides and really spacious. Check out this video from CrackBerry as they are covering the event live. From the look of it, one side is where lots of meetings and things of that nature are conducted as there are long hall ways full of rooms. The other side is interesting where there’s a lot of third party application reps (and RIM reps obviously) rockin’ cool applications and showing what BlackBerry has to show for the future.

We’ve been following Skype for BlackBerry for way too long. I am currently using IM+ which lets me cope for now, but I’d like an official Skype branded application already. Back in June, we saw AT&T enable VoIP calling which got many of us excited that a Skype application may be on its way. At least we got to see the leaked version of Skype for the BlackBerry Storm, but would of rather seen more devices get it as well. The app was really buggy, and there were just too many issues people were having overall with the application. The worst part was all the talk in the mobile world tipping that Skype for BlackBerry was officially coming in May ’09. Blasphemy. We’re still waiting.

To kick off the start of a new week, here’s the first leaked OS in. This one’s for the BlackBerry Storm 2 9520 (yes that overseas version) ranking at 5.0.0.497. Of course this is a leaked version so download and install at your own risk. If you decide to go ahead with it, let us know of any changes you see in this OS. Enjoy.

We weren’t doubting anything before, but didn’t see anything from RIM’s part. It looks like they have went ahead and made a page on the BlackBerry website promoting The Black Eyed Peas The End World Tour 2010. Not only that, but the main front page of BlackBerry.com shows The Black Eyed Peas right there, calling for some big promo. The tour will be going on in quite a few cities and will be played in select movie theaters for a limited time. Is RIM going to hop on with The Black Eyed Peas for good or is it just for this event?

A few months ago, we were handling and giving out the first private beta of skySYNC.fm. Today, we’re announcing that it is available for public beta and you can all hop on to it today absolutely free to sign up for the open beta. For those unaware of skySYNC, it’s a plug-in app for BlackBerry that allows you to access all your iTunes music on your PC or Mac via BlackBerry. As this service works for most mobile phones with a minimal data plan, we’d like to push it out to the BlackBerry community as an alternative way to have your music anywhere and everywhere.

Head over to skySYNC.fm today and grab your beta copy absolutely free. Upon downloading, feel free to report any bugs or suggestions in the skySYNC.fm Forums. Enjoy.

We got the word this morning that 7Digital now supports Last.fm. Basically, users can now link their Last.fm account into the 7Digital BlackBerry application, enabling them to go through played tracks. A cool feature I saw was that the Now Playing status gets updated on the user’s Last.fm profile as well. Aside from that, the app is now available for the Netherlands and 15 other European countries. Hit the jump for the full press release.

It looks like Bolt Browser went through an update today, this time it’s nice. Twitter is everywhere nowadays, and now it’s on Bolt Browser. When browsing a site desired to tweet, you can do so within Bolt, rather than copying URLs making it a huge mess. And now for the exciting part, widgets. Bolt Browser 1.7 is now widget capable. Confused? Here’s a piece from the press release:
“Although BOLT already runs web-based applications written in Ajax, Javascript and other Web programming languages, such as the popular Facebook game Mafia Wars and Google Docs, BOLT 1.7 is adding widget functionality. Now in beta, BOLT widgets allow users to install small self-contained Web applications that run directly from within BOLT. Because these widgets are installed directly within BOLT they load and execute faster than website-based applications, giving users a wider variety of utility for their mobile phones. BOLT users can discover, select and install specific Web apps through a BOLT Widget Gallery. BOLT’s widgets are written as standard W3C widgets (www.w3.org/TR/widgets/), a standard with broad industry support.”
For those curious, yes YouTube is full operational now embedded in the actual page. Feel free to check out the full press release for full details. Otherwise point your BlackBerry Browser to boltbrowser.com or use the link below.

According to BGR, RIM is expected to make a huge announcement this Tueday at MWC (Mobile World Congress) which is being held in Barcelona. The source seems to be from RIM employees, saying that Mike Lazaridis will be talking about BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express (BESX). The services will be launched free as a BlachBerry Enterprise Server which is really exciting. The assumption is that BESX will be using your existing BIS data plan, without having to upgrade to a more expensive one. On the other hand, some folks on Twitter are talking about a whole other data plan from BlackBerry to launch, but I don’t see that being likely just yet as it seems too early to assume.
