As fun and convenient BlackBerry is for us all, it is further convenient to your employers.  According to an article we read over at CBS 4, the BlackBerry smartphone adds an extra 10 days of work per year.  These studies were done by London Telegraph where they calculated how much extra work time BlackBerry owners were actually putting in just by owning the device.

Many British workers found themselves complaining about stress they end up facing due to BlackBerry smartphones being equipped with them at all times, making them feel like they’re always on call.  According to the study, men generally have a harder time disconnecting themselves from their work.  A third of men turn off their phones completely, where about 50 percent of women do.  Even with the third that do shut off their phones, 22 percent of them end up looking at work emails each and every weekend anyway.  Times are tough.

The London Telegraph study find that two-thirds of works suggest that the BlackBerry does indeed help improve their work as 70% of them say emailing is the best strategy to keep in touch with clients and colleagues of theirs.

Are you one of those who find themselves strings attached to the workplace with a BlackBerry always around?  Take a breather and shut off your BlackBerry, if permitted.  Don’t commit yourself highly up there, especially if you’re not working on the clock.  Extracurricular work ends up being a norm after being practiced so much, so don’t dig your whole up.  Let your employers know your availability isn’t all around the clock, as your time can easily be taken for granted.
