Thoughts On WES 2010 – What We Want To See

It’s been really quiet lately with breaking BlackBerry news, especially after the Talladega leaked images. Sure we have the Bold 9650 coming but our excitement quickly ran out for it, especially knowing that it is cosmetically a Tour with a trackpad. So WES is right around the corner and everyone is getting really excited to see what RIM has planned to reveal.  Will it be Verizon’s Bold 9650, Pearl 9100, Talladega, OS 6.0? Perhaps some new concepts?

As we just mentioned, the Talladega which is the BlackBerry slider that got leaked is supposedly coming this year. Our ideal dream would be RIM showcasing the device, or even showing us from a distance in a press conference with some details about it and obviously showing it to us. There have been too many empty rumors as to which carriers will get it or when the device will be launched. More importantly, we need to see the device live in action. Sure the screenshots were exciting but come on! For those unaware, the Talladega is QWERTY BlackBerry with touch screen interface as well. Hence, the reasons why we are all so eager to see it in action.

We’re not going to even get into the BlackBerry Bold 9650, given that the device’s launch is around the corner any way. I’m hoping this isn’t one of RIM’s big announcements. Personally I’m excited more for the BlackBerry Pearl 9100. Why? Let’s start off with the fact that the Pearl series got killed with the 82xx series and we haven’t had anything else since. Secondly, his new Pearl is supposed to come in both QWERTY and SureType which is super exciting. In addition, recent leaks indicate that a T9 version will be available as well, which will be known as the 9105.  Many say it’s sloppy, but RIM is pretty much trying to grab as many users as possible with this device. I favored SureType also, as it was my favorite thing to have on the BlackBerry Storm (besides the “clicky” touch screen). This is a whole new generation for the Pearl and offering it in both QWERTY and SureType calls for extended popularity in the device. So the 9100 is a BlackBerry we haven’t heard much about, but have seen lots of sexy images of it, some of which were crystal clear. I must say I am just as excited for the Pearl as I am for the Talladega.

Lastly In devices, we’d love to see more on this BlackBerry Curve 8910. Yes, it is an EDGE network based device but we still want to see it, especially with the potential of E-EDGE (Evolved EDGE) on the way. The 891o is to be the successor to the older 8900 which has officially become discontinued by carriers such as T-Mobile. It rocks a trackpad with extended memory and of course OS 5, but who knows what will be on there by the time it launches.

We’re almost done here. The last thing we’d like to see is OS 6.0. We had some leaked screenshots of it not to long ago, but the majority say they turned out to be sketches and not authentic. If anyone can recall those screenshots, you’ll remember how much of a disaster it looked like as it went from BlackBerry OS to something looking like Windows Mobile. How tragic. What we need RIM to do is show us a sneak peak of what to expect from OS 6.0 or at least some official details.

Sure this a lot to expect from RIM all at once, but it is what has been picking our brains over the past few months. WES is right around the corner as it starts April 27th and goes into April 29th. Sure we’ll see cool apps, gadgets, and accessories as we are very excited for all those too, but everything we just stated should be addressed by RIM soon, especially with all the quietness we’ve had lately in the BlackBerry world.

BlackBerry Shield gets announced. That will be cool. Probably won't actually see it for many months after.
